Main Cast of Hacks Season 5 Episode 8

Jean Smart plays Deborah Vance, the veteran comedian who refuses to stop fighting for her legacy. In this episode, she comes up with wild ideas to promote her show. She ends up trapped in a glass cube high above Las Vegas during a blackout. Smart shows Deborah looking scared, tired, and humiliated but never weak. She turns a near-disaster into her best career move yet.

Hannah Einbinder returns as Ava Daniels, Deborah’s writer and closest friend. Ava stays on the ground with a walkie-talkie while Deborah hangs in the sky. She tries to keep Deborah calm but also makes inappropriate jokes about how good Deborah looks dangling. Their friendship remains one of the most chaotic and real parts of the show.

Paul W. Downs plays Jimmy Lusaque Jr. , Deborah’s manager. Jimmy deals with a $30 million lawsuit from Kayla’s father Michael. He faces pressure from every side. By the end of the episode, he makes a painful choice. He gives up his agency to protect his clients. The final scene shows him back in the mailroom, sorting envelopes while reading a magazine with Deborah on the cover.

She calls Jimmy her best friend and refuses to give in at first. But she eventually accepts the loss. Her growth from comic relief to someone with real emotional depth shows in every scene.

Carl Clemons-Hopkins plays Marcus, one of Deborah’s most trusted team members. He supports her through the chaos and stays by her side during the crazy publicity stunt.

Special Guest Star in The Cube

Katya Zamolodchikova, the drag superstar from RuPaul’s Drag Race, appears as a drag double of 1990s Deborah Vance. Deborah hires her to say the words she cannot say because of the gag order. But Katya stays fully in character as old Deborah. She refuses to go off script and calls Deborah a crusty old cunt. The fight between the two versions of Deborah becomes one of the funniest moments of the season.

Other Recurring Characters

Robby Hoffman plays Randi, who works with Jimmy and Kayla. She tells them about the lawsuit and helps them navigate the mess.
