The hit HBO drama Euphoria has officially ended. Creator Sam Levinson confirmed that the show will not return for a fourth season. The announcement came right after the season three finale aired on May 31, 2026. HBO backed up Levinson’s statement, putting an end to months of speculation about the show’s future. The season three finale, titled “In God We Trust,” now serves as the series finale.
Sam Levinson Says Euphoria Season 4 Is Not In The Cards
Levinson made the announcement on The New York Times’ podcast Popcast. He explained that the story he wanted to tell has reached its natural end. The creator was joined by hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica when he made the final call.
“In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me.”

Levinson expressed pride in what the team built over eight episodes. “It was such a fulfilling journey in terms of this cast, the crew, what we were able to accomplish,” he said. “There are thousands of things that have to go right in order to make something like this.” He called the ending tragic but truthful.
HBO officially confirmed the show’s conclusion to Variety after the podcast episode went live. This confirmation ends any hope for Euphoria Season 4.
Zendaya And The Cast Knew This Was The End
The news did not catch the show’s lead actors by surprise. Zendaya, who played Rue Bennett, hinted weeks ago that the show was finishing. She appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in April 2026 and gave a direct answer.
“I think so, yeah,” Zendaya said when asked if season three would be the last. “I think so. Yeah. Closure is coming!”
Levinson also told Variety before the season aired that he had “no plans” for more episodes. He said he writes every season “like it’s the last” because he never knew if HBO would pick it up again.
Why There Is No Euphoria Season 4
Several factors led to the show ending after three seasons. The gap between season two and season three stretched to over four years. During that time, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi became major movie stars with packed schedules.
Production on season three faced many delays. The Hollywood strikes of 2023 slowed down writing and filming. The sudden death of Angus Cloud in July 2023 at age 25 also changed the direction of the story. Cloud died from an accidental overdose. Levinson used the final season as a tribute to him.
HBO Chairman Casey Bloys told Deadline in early 2026 that Levinson was focused on finishing season three. Bloys said they would talk about the show’s future later. That conversation led to the decision to end it.

How The Finale Wrapped Up The Story
The season three finale closed out the main characters’ stories. Rue Bennett died from a fentanyl overdose in the last episode. Levinson called this choice “a way of honoring Angus and saying a prayer for the future.” Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, also died in the penultimate episode.
The finale received mixed reactions from critics. The season holds a 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 39% audience score. Despite the low ratings, viewers still tuned in. Season three premiered with 8.5 million viewers in its first three days in the US, a 44% increase from season two.
Euphoria ran for three seasons, 26 episodes, and seven years. The first episode premiered in June 2019. The show won multiple Emmy awards, including two Best Actress wins for Zendaya. All episodes are currently streaming on HBO Max in the US. Global viewers can watch on Max in the UK, Crave in Canada, Binge in Australia, and JioCinema in India.
