The moody Yosemite-set murder mystery Untamed was one of Netflix’s biggest hits of 2025, quickly climbing the charts and becoming the third-most-watched title on the platform in the second half of the year, with a massive 92.8 million views. Though it was originally conceived as a limited series, the streamer has officially ordered a second season.
Untamed Season 2 is now in production. However, an exact release date has not been announced. Filming for the six-part season began in February 2026, with shooting expected to continue until early June. This production timeline suggests the earliest we could see the new season is early 2027, potentially around a summer release to align with the first season’s premiere.
Where to Watch
Untamed Season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States and globally. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions.
Story Progression: A New Location and a New Case
Season 1 ended with Special Agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) finally finding closure and leaving Yosemite National Park behind. Season 2 catches up with him a year and a half later. He has since visited several other parks and taken on numerous cases.
The new season takes Turner to Hawaiโi Volcanoes National Park. The official logline states that he is “called to investigate a mysterious death in Hawaiโi Volcanoes National Park, where local tensions and the volatile, living landscape become an unpredictable force.”
A Change of Scenery
The move to Hawaii is a deliberate creative choice to put the character on the back foot. Co-creator Mark L. Smith explained: “Turner was so comfortable in Yosemiteโฆ He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we’re] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable.” The creators have emphasized that the park itself is a character in the story, with Elle Smith adding: “Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive. We do want to maintain that thread.”
