Alex Winter has shared a direct update on the long-discussed Bill & Ted 4, confirming that he and Keanu Reeves are both eager to return as Bill S. Preston and Ted Logan. The actor revealed that the desire to make a fourth film is genuine, though he was clear that several pieces would need to fall into place first. Winter also addressed the idea of a reboot without the original stars, calling it a bad idea.

During a fan-led interview with The Guardian, Winter was asked directly about the future of the franchise. His answer made it clear that the door is open on his side. “Keanu and I would love to make a fourth movie. I think the stars have to align in a number of areas for that to happen. But we love playing these characters,” Winter said. He went on to explain how closely tied he feels to the role. “We kind of are Bill and Ted. We started playing the characters so young, I don’t really think they exist without us. We defined the characters from the very beginning, so I don’t think it really matters how old we are. It becomes a question of how long can you act, and I think one can act until one is no longer breathing”.

The movie was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and did not perform well at the box office, but it earned positive reviews from critics and fans who appreciated its warm tone and respect for the original films.

That statement confirmed that conversations about the project had taken place, even if no formal development has followed.
For now, there is no confirmed script, director, or release date for Bill & Ted 4. What exists is clear interest from both lead actors and a fanbase that has stayed loyal across more than three decades.
