Anweshippin Kandethum: A Epic Crime Thriller with 2 Twists

Loading

Tovino Thomas plays a police officer who investigates two different murder cases in this Malayalam film directed by debutant Darwin Kuriakose.

Anweshippin Kandethum Story

Anweshippin Kandethum, which means ‘In Search of Truth’, is a crime thriller set in the early 1990s. The film stars Tovino Thomas as SI Anand Narayanan, a young and honest police officer who joins a village in Kottayam district. His first case is to find the missing Lovely Mathan, a teenage girl who belongs to a Christian family.

Anand faces many obstacles and pressures from his seniors, who want him to drop the investigation into a priest who is suspected of being involved in the girl’s disappearance. Anand decides to pursue the case secretly and submits his report to the SP, but things take a turn for the worse when he is accused of fabricating evidence and framing an innocent man.

Anand is suspended from his duty and loses his reputation in the public eye. He is then assigned to a six-year-old cold case in Cheruvalli, where a woman was brutally murdered and her husband was arrested. Anand and his team reopen the case and find new clues that point to a different culprit. Anand also discovers a link between the two cases and realizes that he has been manipulated by a mastermind. Will Anand be able to solve both the cases and prove his innocence? Will he be able to restore his dignity and respect as a police officer?

Anweshippin Kandethum Review

Anweshippin Kandethum is a film that tries to keep the audience engaged with two different murder mysteries and two unexpected twists. The film is written by Jinu Abraham, who has previously penned thrillers like Kaduva and Adam Joan. The film is divided into two halves, each focusing on one case. The first half is fast-paced and gripping, while the second half is slow and draggy. The film also changes its narrative style from the first half to the second, shifting from a linear to a non-linear mode. The film has some loopholes and logical flaws, but it manages to maintain the suspense and intrigue for the most part.

The film is more of a procedural drama than a psychological thriller, as it shows how Anand and his team collect the evidence and interrogate the suspects. The film does not delve much into the motives or the backgrounds of the characters, nor does it explore the emotional or social aspects of the crimes. The film is mainly focused on the investigation and the revelation of the truth. The film also touches upon the themes of corruption, power, and justice, but does not go deep into them.

The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayan, a popular Tamil music director who makes his debut in Malayalam cinema. The film’s songs are catchy and suit the mood of the film, while the background score is effective and enhances the tension and the thrill. The film’s cinematography by Sujith Sarang is impressive and captures the rural and urban settings of the film. The film’s editing by Sreejith Sarang is crisp and smooth in the first half, but could have been tighter in the second half.

The film’s main strength is the performance of Tovino Thomas, who plays the role of a cop for the fourth time in his career. Tovino delivers a convincing and nuanced performance as Anand, who goes through a lot of challenges and changes in his personal and professional life. Tovino portrays the character’s determination, frustration, and vulnerability with ease and subtlety. He does not resort to loud or heroic dialogues or actions, but relies on his body language and expressions to convey his emotions.

Tovino also shows his versatility by playing two different versions of the same character, one as a naive and idealistic officer, and the other as a mature and confident leader. Tovino is well-supported by a host of talented actors, such as Indrans, Shammi Thilakan, Siddique, Harisree Ashokan, and Baburaj, who play his team members, seniors, and rivals.

Anweshippin Kandethum is a decent crime thriller that offers some entertainment and surprises to the viewers. The film is not flawless or original, but it is engaging and enjoyable for the most part. The film is a good showcase of Tovino Thomas’ acting skills and Darwin Kuriakose’s direction skills. The film is worth a watch for the fans of the genre and the actor.
