Amid recent controversy surrounding HYBE’s internal report, an old interview with BTS’s SUGA is raising questions about the group’s past contract renewals. The leaked document, initially presented during the React Parliamentary Audit, reportedly contained notes on negative content concerning both HYBE’s artists and idols from other companies. Fans were particularly alarmed by allegations that HYBE might have accessed content from Sojang, a controversial YouTube channel known for defaming idols, including BTS’s Jungkook and V.
SUGA’s 2018 Interview Resurfaces: Contract Renewal Hints
As tensions around HYBE’s internal practices grow, SUGA’s 2018 interview has resurfaced within fan communities, drawing fresh scrutiny. In the interview, SUGA reflected on a critical moment leading up to BTS’s contract renewal six years ago. According to SUGA, RM, J-Hope, and he wrote the song “Tear” as they faced uncertainty about their future with HYBE. SUGA recalled sending a message to V and Jungkook, both of whom appeared undecided about renewing their contracts at the time.
SUGA explained:
“That’s when Namjoon, J-Hope, and I wrote the lyrics for ‘Tear,’ and I sent a long message to you guys.”
V, responding in the same interview, highlighted the positive impact of SUGA’s message:
“After we heard what you said, it gave us renewed strength and a more positive mindset. I never thought you’d be the one to say something like that, but when you did, it really touched us deeply and was so moving. It became a moment that helped us find more motivation.”
Fans believe this exchange hints at V and Jungkook’s hesitation to remain with HYBE back in 2018. The resurfacing of this interview in the current context has led many to reconsider BTS’s relationship with the agency, especially in light of recent controversies.
Fan Reactions: Should BTS Leave HYBE?
As discussions grew, comments from fans and netizens have echoed similar sentiments, with many fans questioning if BTS would be better off moving on from HYBE. Some fans pointed to the agency’s repeated controversies as a “bad influence” on the group and suggested that HYBE’s challenges may impact the group’s artistic freedom.
In response to SUGA’s interview excerpt, one user commented:
“Although they were criticized at that time, it was later revealed that they didn’t even have access to lawyers. Now they should know better and leave to pursue the music they want.”
Another comment expressed frustration, suggesting:
“They should’ve left back then, the two of them.”
In particular, fans are concerned about BTS’s long-anticipated 2025 comeback, hoping that HYBE’s issues won’t affect the group’s momentum or future projects.
Since it was posted online on October 30, SUGA’s interview clip has attracted over 95,000 views, reflecting fans’ ongoing interest in BTS’s journey and the potential impact of HYBE’s latest controversies.
