Charlamagne Tha God, the co-host of the popular radio show “The Breakfast Club”, has shared his thoughts on the recent Lifetime documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?”, which chronicled the life and struggles of his former mentor and friend, Wendy Williams.

The documentary, which aired on February 24 and 25, 2024, revealed the shocking details of Williams’ health issues, including her diagnosis of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, which led to the cancellation of her long-running talk show “The Wendy Williams Show” in 2022. The documentary also featured interviews with Williams’ family members, friends, and colleagues, who gave their perspectives on her rise and fall in the media industry.

Charlamagne, who worked with Williams on her radio show “The Wendy Williams Experience” from 2006 to 2008, told Page Six that he found the documentary “very hard to watch” and that he was “shocked” that her family signed off on it.

“I don’t know who she has around her that truly cares and I was very very shocked and surprised to see that her family was executive producers of this project,” he said. “I know her son, Kevin, her niece, nephew, sister and brother all love her and care for her so it’s very interesting to see them participate in this documentary knowing the state she was in. I was just like, damn. You could look at her and tell something’s not right, so why would you want this out there?”

Charlamagne Tha God says he still respects Wendy Williams’ legacy.

Despite his criticism of the documentary, Charlamagne said that he still respects Williams’ legacy and achievements in the media business. He said that Williams taught him valuable lessons about being authentic and speaking for the people.

“You can’t erase who Wendy Williams is,” he said. “You just have to look at all of this in the totality of her existence. Her story is not over. That’s the beauty about life: it is never over until it’s over. She had a stellar radio career. She had a stellar fourteen-year run on TV. This is just the current chapter for Wendy Williams.”

He added that he hopes that Williams can make a comeback and that he and the public can learn from her mistakes. “It is not the end for Wendy Williams because she is still here on this planet,” he said. “I just hope that we all can learn from this. When you see great people fall, don’t laugh; learn from it. It was just poor life choices.”

Charlamagne Tha God and Wendy Williams had a feud for over a decade.

Charlamagne and Williams had a close relationship when they worked together on her radio show, but their friendship ended in 2008 when Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, fired Charlamagne over a “bad business deal”, as Charlamagne revealed in his 2017 book “Black Privilege”. Charlamagne also claimed that Hunter was the reason why he and Williams stopped talking, as he had introduced Hunter to his alleged mistress, Sharina Hudson, who later gave birth to Hunter’s child.

The feud between Charlamagne and Williams lasted for over a decade, during which Williams denied knowing who Charlamagne was in a 2014 interview with Elvis Duran. However, the two reconciled in 2019, after Williams filed for divorce from Hunter and reached out to Charlamagne for support. They even went on a “double date” with their respective partners, as Williams posted on her Instagram account.

Charlamagne said that he is glad that he and Williams are on good terms again and that he considers her to be a “ride-or-die chick” who stood by her husband despite his infidelity. He also said that he wishes her the best and that he is always there for her.

“I’m happy that we’ve reconnected,” he said. “I’m happy that she’s out of that situation. I’m happy that she’s healthy. I’m happy that she’s living her life. And if she ever needs me for anything, I’m just a phone call away.”
