For fans hoping for more summers at Cousins Beach, the message is clear: the hit Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” will not have a fourth season. Creator and showrunner Jenny Han has confirmed that the three-season television adaptation of her beloved book trilogy has reached its planned conclusion. However, the story of Belly Conklin and the Fisher brothers is not over. Instead of a Season 4, Han is bringing the final chapter to audiences through “The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie”.

Why The Story Is Ending After Three Seasons

The primary reason there will be no Season 4 is straightforward: the television series has completed its adaptation of the source material. The show is based on Han’s trilogy of novelsโ€”The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You, and We’ll Always Have Summerโ€”with each season corresponding to one book.

In multiple interviews, Han has explained that extending the story beyond its natural endpoint was never her goal. She emphasized that creative integrity, not commercial pressure, guided her decision.

“Doing what I think is best for the story has always been my north star, and the story to me fit for these three seasons,” Han told the Los Angeles Times. “I appreciate that [Prime Video executives] respected that. To be able to say when, to be able to call it, is rare when something is doing well and making people money. But I have to be true to myself and what I think is best for the story”.

This three-season plan allowed the show to expand on the books. The series’ third season included an extended storyline following Belly (Lola Tung) as she lived in Paris, an experience only briefly mentioned in the final novel. Han noted she kept adding to these scripts, feeling it was important to show Belly’s growth while living independently in a foreign country.

What Awaits Fans in the Upcoming Movie

The announcement of a concluding movie came just 12 hours after the Season 3 finale aired on September 17, 2025. Han stated that the final chapter of Belly’s journey required a different format.

“There is another big milestone left in Bellyโ€™s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement.

While specific plot details are under wraps, the film will likely explore the next phase for Belly and Conrad (Christopher Briney) after their Paris reunion. The series finale saw them finally together, but it did not show their return to Cousins Beach or how they navigate their complex family dynamics. The movie is expected to provide this closure, allowing fans to see the couple build their happy ending.

As of early December 2025, the movie is in its early stages. Han revealed that while the script is written, filming has not yet begun.

“I just wrote it. We have not filmed anything yet,” Han shared at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit on December 2, 2025. She addressed fan hopes for a Christmas 2025 release, adding, “I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible”.

The tight production schedule for Season 3, which was releasing episodes through September 2025, made shooting a movie simultaneously unfeasible. A release date has not been announced.

Could The TSITP Universe Continue in Other Forms?

While the central love story is concluding, the door to the broader world of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is not completely closed. Jenny Han has expressed openness to telling more stories within the universe, though not as a continuation of the main plot.

“I’m definitely open to doing more stories in the universe,” Han told the LA Times. “Itโ€™s just that I want to figure out what the story is that I feel so compelled to tell it that Iโ€™m willing to spend the next few years throwing my whole body into it”.

She has used the phrase “never say never” when asked about potential prequels, sequels, or spin-off series. Any future project would need to be a story that genuinely excites her, as she notes that showrunning is an all-consuming effort.

Lead actress Lola Tung has also shared her willingness to return should an opportunity arise, citing her love for the cast and for working with Jenny Han.

Where to Watch the Series Now

All three seasons of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” are currently available to stream globally on Amazon Prime Video. The series follows Belly Conklin’s coming-of-age and her years-long love triangle with brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno), set against the backdrop of summers at the Fisher family beach house.
