Amazon Prime Video’s live-action God of War series continues to build its cast with the addition of Max Parker as the god Heimdall. Parker, known for his role in the Netflix series Boots, will play the watchman of Asgard, a character known for his quick wit and ability to see the future. This casting, alongside the earlier announcement of Teresa Palmer as the goddess Sif, gives strong clues about the direction of the show’s first season.

Confirmed Casting and Character Details for Heimdall

The official announcement came from Amazon MGM Studios on January 21, 2026. Max Parker will join previously announced lead Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos, and Teresa Palmer, who plays Sif. According to the character description, Heimdall is “The Watchman of Asgard, and one of the sons of Odin” who possesses “the special ability to anticipate whatโ€™s about to happen at any moment”.

The description also notes Heimdall is “handsome and dynamic” but feels “unappreciated by his father and underestimated by the rest of the family,” which drives him to constantly seek more power and a better position. In the God of War video game series, Heimdall serves as an antagonist, using his foresight to gain an advantage in battle.

What Heimdall’s Casting Reveals About the Show’s Story

The choice to cast Heimdall is a major signal for fans of the games. Heimdall is not a character in the 2018 God of War game, which rebooted the series with a Norse setting. Instead, he first appears in the 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok, as a supporting antagonist. The earlier casting of Teresa Palmer as Sifโ€”another character who plays a larger role in Ragnarokโ€”points to the same narrative direction.

This has led to discussion that the Amazon series might blend or condense stories from both recent games. One analysis suggests the show could cover the core events of the first game more quickly to include characters and conflicts from Ragnarok within its first season, which has already been greenlit for two seasons. The official logline for the show remains focused on the central journey: “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye”.

Meet Max Parker, the Actor Behind the New Heimdall

Max Parker is a British actor who gained significant attention for his role as Sergeant Liam Robert Sullivan in the 2025 Netflix military dramedy Boots. His performance in that series earned him the Visibility Award from the Human Rights Campaign for its impact on LGBTQ+ representation.

Parker’s other television credits include roles in Vampire Academy for Peacock, Doctor Who for BBC, and the long-running UK soap opera Emmerdale. His casting continues Amazon’s trend of selecting actors with strong television backgrounds for this major adaptation.

The Creative Team Bringing God of War to Life

The series is being led by an experienced creative team. Ronald D. Moore, the celebrated showrunner behind series like Battlestar Galactica and Outlander, serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. The directing duties for the first two episodes will be handled by Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy-winning director known for his work on Shลgun, The Boys, and Fallout.

The production is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions. The show has received a two-season order, and pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver, Canada. Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2026.

Major Roles Still to Be Announced for the Series

With Kratos, Sif, and now Heimdall cast, several key characters from the games are still awaiting announcement. The most prominent is Atreus, Kratos’s son, who is central to the story. Other major gods expected to appear include Thor, Odin, and Freya. There is also speculation about whether Alastair Duncan will reprise his role from the games as the wise head, Mimir, though this has not been confirmed.

Christopher Judge, who provides the voice and motion capture for Kratos in the recent games, has publicly supported the casting of Ryan Hurst. Judge called it “a magnificent choice” and noted that Hurst is “a gamer who has played GoW since its inception”.

The series does not yet have a public release date. As production moves forward, more casting announcements are expected in the coming weeks and months.
