BTS officially returned as a full group on March 21, 2026, performing at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul for BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE ARIRANG. The outdoor concert, which also streamed globally on Netflix, marked their first full-group show in nearly four years after all seven members completed mandatory military service. The event drew massive crowds and featured a setlist that blended new tracks from their fifth studio album ARIRANG with career-defining hits.

Full Setlist from the Gwanghwamun Stage

The group performed a total of 12 songs during the approximately one-hour show. The setlist leaned heavily on ARIRANG, which was released just one day earlier on March 20, giving fans their first live experience of the new material. Here is the complete setlist from the night:

  • Body to Body
  • Hooligan
  • 2.0
  • Butter
  • Mic Drop
  • Aliens
  • FYA
  • SWIM
  • Like Animals
  • Normal
  • Dynamite
  • Mikrokosmos

Eight of the 12 songs came from the new album ARIRANG, making the comeback show a true showcase of their latest work. The performance of SWIM, the album’s lead single, marked its live debut, with the group delivering intricate choreography against the backdrop of Gyeongbokgung Palace.

Over 100,000 Fans Gather at Historic Landmark

The concert transformed Gwanghwamun Square into a massive performance venue, with the stage set up in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, approximately 104,000 people gathered near the square and surrounding areas to witness the event. The police had initially prepared for up to 260,000 attendees, deploying around 15,000 personnel including officers, firefighters, and public officials for crowd management.

Large video screens were installed throughout the area so fans outside the ticketed section could still watch the performance. The 22,000 reserved seats in front of the stage sold out quickly, with most seats offered for free except for paid lottery tickets for fan club members.

RM Performs from Chair Following Ankle Injury

During rehearsals on March 19, RM suffered an ankle injury that affected his stage movement. For the comeback show, he performed seated in a chair for most of the songs, focusing on his vocals while the other members handled the choreography. He was seen limping at times while moving on stage but continued to lead the group throughout the performance.

V was spotted sitting in RM’s chair at one point during the show, leading to a lighthearted moment between the two members.

Members Share Emotional Thoughts on Returning to Stage

The members spoke openly about their feelings leading up to the comeback after years of solo activities and military service. Jungkook shared on stage:

“It’s been a while… or has it? I won’t forget this night. I was actually nervous about the comeback, but standing here in front of you feels amazing.”

Jimin expressed gratitude to the fans who filled the square:

“ARMY, we finally met. I’m overwhelmed and grateful to be able to speak like this. I’m so happy the seven of us can be together again. I missed you.”

Suga called it an honor to perform “at the most historic place in Korea,” explaining that the album title ARIRANG reflected their desire to capture the group’s identity, which led to staging the comeback at Gwanghwamun.

V told the crowd:

“It feels new to be able to come back in such a special place. We waited a long time, too. Wherever you are, I hope our feelings reach you.”

J-Hope announced during the show: “BTS 2.0 is just getting started!” drawing loud cheers from the audience.

Stage Production Brought Together Tradition and Modern Design

The concert was directed by Hamish Hamilton, known for his work on the Super Bowl Halftime Show and the Academy Awards. Netflix held exclusive broadcasting rights and brought in directors from the 2012 London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies, along with Emmy Award-winning producers.

The stage was designed as an open-type cube structure that framed Gyeongbokgung Palace like a picture, blending tradition with modern production. The performance opened with dancers from the National Gugak Center playing traditional Korean music as the members walked the “King’s Path” from Geunjeongmun Gate to the main stage.

Global Streaming and What’s Available Now

The concert streamed live on Netflix starting at 8 p.m. KST (7 a.m. ET) on March 21, reaching viewers in 190 countries. For those who missed the live broadcast, Netflix will release a documentary titled BTS: The Return on March 27, offering behind-the-scenes access to the album’s creation in Los Angeles and Seoul.

The ARIRANG album, released March 20, sold over 4 million copies on its first day, setting a new personal record for the group. The music video for SWIM, directed by Tanu Muiño and starring Hollywood actress Lili Reinhart, surpassed 5 million views on YouTube within its first hour.

The group is scheduled to perform SWIM in the United States on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 25 and 26.
