The Main Cast of Elsbeth Season 3 Episode 16
Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni
Prestonโs character once again showed why people should never underestimate her. In Episode 16, Elsbeth grows suspicious of Elliott Pope right away and fights to dig deeper into the case even when her boss doubts her. She also deals with personal heartbreak after choosing to end things with Alec Bloom because she could not ignore her instincts about his past lies. Preston is well known for her work on The Good Wife and True Blood.
Wendell Pierce as Captain Wagner
Wagner does not believe Elsbethโs theory at first. He thinks Elliottโs story sounds solid and that Elsbeth is reaching. But as the clues start to line up, he changes his mind and supports her investigation. Pierce has appeared in Waiting to Exhale and Selma.
Daniel K. Isaac as Lieutenant Steve Connor
Connor helps Elsbeth work on the case even when Wagner sees it as barely worth their time. He trusts Elsbethโs gut feeling and gives her the backup she needs to keep pushing forward. Isaac has been in According to My Mother and Billions.
Lindsay Mendez as Officer Grace Hackett
Grace works closely with Elsbeth during the investigation. She interviews witnesses and helps search for clues that might prove Elliottโs guilt. Mendez is known for All Rise and Merrily We Roll Along.
The Guest Stars Who Made Episode 16 Special
Griffin Dunne as Elliott Pope
Dunne plays the killer in this episode. His character is a bestselling writer with a huge ego who cannot handle any form of negative feedback. When bookstore owner Barney Corman tells him his new writing is weak, Elliott snaps and kills him by pushing over a bookshelf. The actor is famous for his roles in After Hours and This Is Us.
Mark Linn-Baker as Barney Corman
Linn-Baker plays the murder victim. Barney owns a struggling bookstore and shares a hometown history with Elliott. His criticism of Elliottโs unpublished manuscript leads directly to his death. The actor is best known for Perfect Strangers and My Favorite Year.
Didi Conn as Beverly Corman
Conn plays Barneyโs widow. Beverly regrets not pushing the police to investigate further because she thought her husbandโs death was an accident. She also stayed away from the bookstoreโs storage room because of a rat problem. Once Elsbeth helps solve that issue, Beverly helps revisit the crime scene and piece together what really happened. Conn famously appeared in Grease and Best Medicine.
Joanna Gleason as Maura Davidoff
Gleason plays Elliottโs first wife. Maura wrote a tell-all book about her marriage to the famous novelist. She shares important details about Barneyโs life and his complicated friendship with Elliott, giving the team much-needed background on the case. Gleason won a Tony Award for Into the Woods and also starred in Boogie Nights.
Ivan Hernandez as Alec Bloom
Hernandez appears as Alec, Elsbethโs romantic interest. He meets with Elsbeth to thank her for helping him grow and asks her to stay in his life. But Elsbeth chooses to end things because she still struggles to trust him after his past dishonesty. Hernandez has been in Devious Maids and The Rookie.
Ben Levi Ross as Teddy
Ross plays Teddy, who walks with Elsbeth and her dog Gonzo after her breakup with Alec. During this walk, a small detail helps Elsbeth solve the case. A discarded dog waste bag reminds her of Elliottโs habit of licking his thumb to turn pages, which leaves DNA evidence on a rare book. Ross is known for River Fork and Tick, Tickโฆ Boom!
What Happened in Episode 16
The episode opened with famous novelist Elliott Pope reading from his latest book. Things turned awkward when an interviewer started asking hard questions. Later, Barney Corman asked to read Elliottโs unfinished manuscript. After reading it, Barney told Elliott the new material was weak.
Elliott did not take the criticism well. While alone in the bookstore storeroom, he tipped over a large bookshelf and killed Barney. He grabbed his manuscript and walked away calmly.
The case picked up again when Elsbeth attended another of Elliottโs book events. She noticed his latest story sounded too close to Barneyโs death, which raised immediate red flags in her mind. Elsbeth visited Barneyโs bookstore, spoke to his widow Beverly, recreated the crime scene, and slowly found holes in Elliottโs story.
Things got even stranger when Elliott started writing a character clearly based on Elsbeth in his next manuscript. The final clue came during a walk with Teddy and the dog. Elsbeth remembered that Elliott licks his thumb to turn pages โ and he had done the same thing to Barneyโs rare copy of a book called Howards End. That book had only come out of a safety deposit box on the day of the murder, proving Elliott was there.
Elsbeth confronted Elliott during another public event and exposed him in front of his audience before police arrested him.
