The Way Home delivered another dramatic episode on April 26, 2026, with season 4 episode 2 titled “Blinded by the Light.” Kat Landry finally made it to the 1920s, but she did not find the answers about Tessa that she wanted. Instead, Kat discovered a complicated love story involving her great-grandmother Fern. This love story could change everything fans know about the Landry family line.

Alice also traveled back to the 1970s during the episode. She reunited with a young Colton and Evelyn Goodwin. Evelyn shared some big news about her pregnancy, which directly connects to Max’s future in the present day. Back in the current timeline, Del finally told Elliot the truth about his mother Tessa. She admitted that someone took Tessa, but Del did not leave Elliot by choice.

The episode ended with both timelines pointing toward the tunnels under Lingermore. Five men entered those tunnels one day, but only four came back out. This mystery is now the center of the show’s final season.

Kat Meets Fern in the Summer of 1925

Kat jumped into the pond hoping to find proof that Tessa existed in the 1920s. Instead of finding Tessa, Kat met a young and energetic Fern Landry. Fern saw Kat stumble out of the pond and immediately gave her the nickname “Kitty Kat.” What is interesting is that Fern did not ask any questions about how Kat arrived. She accepted the strange situation without fear, which shows she already knew about the pond’s magic.

Fern worked at the local newspaper and lived a glamorous life in 1925. She took Kat to a big party at Lingermore, the Goodwin family mansion. The party was full of music, dancing, and illegal alcohol because Prohibition was happening at that time. Fern told Kat that Prohibition did not exist inside Lingermore, showing how the wealthy Goodwin family played by different rules.

During the party, Kat learned about Grayson Goodwin, the man hosting the event. Fern described Grayson as a war hero who fixed up Lingermore after the army used it as a hospital. Grayson wanted to bring movie productions to Port Haven and promised Fern she could become a star. He proposed to Fern during the party, and she said yes.

A New Man Enters Fern’s Life

Things became more complicated when Clifton Kane arrived at the party. Clifton was the new Temperance Inspector for Port Haven, meaning his job was to stop people from selling illegal alcohol. He shut down the party immediately after finding prohibited drinks. This created an obvious problem because Fern was now engaged to a man whose business depended on breaking the law.

Kat noticed that Grayson was talking secretly with the Augustine brothers, who were known bootleggers during Prohibition. Kat tried to warn Fern about Grayson’s shady activities, but Fern was excited about the future Grayson promised her. She wanted fame and a life of glamour, and she did not want to hear anything bad about her fiancé.

Later, Clifton and Fern met again at the newspaper office where Fern worked. They had an immediate connection that felt natural and easy. Because of choices Kat made during the episode, Clifton ended up staying at the Landry farm. This put him very close to Fern at a time when she was supposed to marry another man.

The Big Question About Fern’s Children

The biggest secret from the 1920s storyline involves Fern’s children. Kat later asked Del about who fathered Fern’s kids. Del explained that nobody in the family ever knew for sure. This is a huge deal because if Grayson was the father, then the Landry and Goodwin families are connected by blood. That would change how fans understand the relationship between Alice and Max Goodwin in the present day.

If Clifton was the father, then an entirely different mystery begins. Someone needs to figure out who Clifton Kane really is and where his family line went. The episode did not give a clear answer, but it strongly suggested that Fern’s love choice in 1925 affects everything happening now.

Adding to the confusion, Fern had a story about a sailor that she told her children. Kat realized this story matched a movie idea that Grayson was developing. This raises the possibility that Fern made up the sailor story to hide the truth about who really fathered her kids.

Alice Returns to the 1970s

While Kat explored the 1920s, Alice landed in the 1970s. She did not understand why the pond sent her there at first. Older Fern reminded Alice that the pond always has a reason, even when it does not make sense right away.

Alice reunited with a young Evelyn Goodwin, who was now married to a man named Ashley. Evelyn’s life looked very different from when Alice last saw her. Colton Landry was also there, and the three friends spent time together. But something felt off. A poet had entered Evelyn’s life, and Colton immediately did not trust him. Colton believed this man was using Evelyn for money and attention. Alice agreed with Colton’s concerns.

Then Evelyn shared her big news. She was pregnant. Evelyn felt scared and overwhelmed, but Alice stayed by her side. Alice reassured Evelyn that she could still be a good mother no matter what happened with Ashley. This moment is very important because Evelyn’s pregnancy leads directly to Max’s birth. Max has become an important person in Alice’s present-day life, so this trip to the 1970s carries serious consequences.

Elliot Learns the Painful Truth About His Mother

The final part of the episode delivered a major reveal for Elliot. Del finally admitted that she and Colton kept a secret about Tessa for many years. Del told Elliot that she does not know exactly what happened to his mother, but she does know who took her. Someone took Tessa away. She did not leave baby Elliot by choice.

A flashback showed Del and Colton talking about Tessa. Del believed there was more to the story than what people knew, while Colton seemed unsure about the full truth. The couple made a pact to keep this secret, and they stuck to it for decades. Andie MacDowell, who plays Del, explained that Del had complex reasons for not telling Elliot everything. She wanted to protect him from more pain.

Evan Williams, who plays Elliot, said that Del has not been as open as she could have been. But he noted that the show often looks at the things people do to protect each other, even when those choices make things more complicated.

Also during the episode, Griffin Landry returned to Port Haven on a motorcycle. Del later confirmed that Griffin was the person missing from an old photo of herself, Colton, and Tessa. Del believes Griffin took Tessa. This sets up Griffin as a key figure in the mystery of what happened to Elliot’s mother.

Lingermore’s Tunnels Hold the Biggest Secrets

Throughout the episode, both timelines kept coming back to the tunnels under Lingermore. In the 1920s, Fern mentioned that five men entered the tunnels, but only four came back out. Someone died down there, and that death appears to connect to everything.

In the 1970s, Alice and her friends also talked about the tunnels. The underground space seems to be a place where time feels suspended and where major events have happened over the years. Whatever took place in those tunnels changed the lives of the Landry, Goodwin, and Augustine families forever.

The episode made it clear that the biggest answers are buried in Lingermore’s past. Kat still does not have clear information about Tessa, but she is closer than before. Alice helped shape major future events during her trip to the 1970s. And Elliot finally received the truth he deserved years ago, even though it came with more pain than relief.
