She found out she was ranked as Ludlow’s “Fourth Hottest Professor.” But that news quickly turned sour when she realized her mother Elizabeth used money and influence to get Katie both hired and granted tenure.
Katie confronted both her parents. Elizabeth refused to apologize for helping her daughter. She argued that an inexperienced 29-year-old would never get a full professorship otherwise. The situation got worse when Elizabeth revealed it was Greg‘s idea to get Katie the job in the first place.
This shattered Katie’s confidence. She told Greg it would have been better if he had never taken the writer-in-residence position. If she had been fired, at least she could have left Ludlow and started fresh somewhere else.
