What the Rooster Episode 10 Preview Shows

The preview for the season finale teases a chaotic final day for Greg Russo at Ludlow College. Greg tells his students it is his last class. But the students seem unbothered, excusing themselves for other activities. His friend Dylan tries to reassure him that the students will miss him.

The bigger drama revolves around Greg’s daughter Katie, played by Charly Clive. In the previous episode, Katie discovered that her parents interfered to get her the teaching job at Ludlow. She also learned they saved her position after she burned down faculty housing. This sent her into an existential crisis.

In the finale preview, Katie lays down firm boundaries with her parents. She tells them to stay out of her life. A quote from the preview shows Katie’s frustration:

“My life is mine and I need you to stay out of it.”

Archie, Katie’s ex-husband played by Phil Dunster, is also dealing with his own struggles. His book draft was rejected by his publisher. The preview shows Archie struggling with bottled-up emotions while Sunny and Mo try to figure out what is wrong with him.

Episode 9 Set Up Major Family Conflict

The penultimate episode, which aired on May 3, focused heavily on Katie‘s emotional breakdown. She found out she was ranked as Ludlow’s “Fourth Hottest Professor.” But that news quickly turned sour when she realized her mother Elizabeth used money and influence to get Katie both hired and granted tenure.

Katie confronted both her parents. Elizabeth refused to apologize for helping her daughter. She argued that an inexperienced 29-year-old would never get a full professorship otherwise. The situation got worse when Elizabeth revealed it was Greg‘s idea to get Katie the job in the first place.

This shattered Katie’s confidence. She told Greg it would have been better if he had never taken the writer-in-residence position. If she had been fired, at least she could have left Ludlow and started fresh somewhere else.

Greg‘s Hockey Coaching Success

While family drama took center stage, Greg spent Episode 9 helping Ludlow’s struggling hockey team. The team faced a match against better players from a rival college. Greg reached out to the school’s former volatile coach Jake for help. Even though Jake is still in a recovery program, he fired up the players by making them angry. The game turned violent, but Ludlow won. This victory saved the hockey team from being cut by the college board.

What Critics Are Saying

Rooster holds a solid 8.3/10 rating on IMDb. Critics have praised Charly Clive‘s performance as Katie. The A.V. Club noted that Clive has “slowly emerged as the secret weapon” of the show. While the series tries to balance comedy and emotional drama, reviewers agree that Katie’s storyline gives the show its strongest moments.

Season 2 Already Confirmed

The show will continue beyond this finale. Deadline reports that Rooster has been renewed for a second season. Season 2 will pick up during Ludlow’s spring semester. This gives fans something to look forward to after the Season 1 ending.
