Shehnaaz Gill has finally spoken about Sajid Khan’s film 100% being shelved. The film was announced four years ago with a big cast including John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, and Nora Fatehi. Now, in a new interview, Shehnaaz has shared her true feelings about the project not moving forward and explained why she believes it might be for the best.
Shehnaaz Gill Reflects on 100 Percent Not Being Made
Shehnaaz Gill was set to be one of the main leads in Sajid Khan’s directorial comeback, 100%. The film was announced with much excitement in August 2022. It was planned as a comedy entertainer and was scheduled for a theatrical release around Diwali 2023. However, the project never went into production and was eventually shelved.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Shehnaaz opened up about how she handled the news of the film not happening. She shared a very calm and practical view of the situation.
“Main utna serious leti nahin hun in cheezon ko. Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki nahin hui acha hua, kyunki kuch cheezein nahin banne mein hi bhalai hoti hai.”
This translates to, “I don’t take these things too seriously. I feel that if it didn’t happen, it’s good, because sometimes it’s better that some things don’t happen.” Her statement shows a mature understanding of how unpredictable the film industry can be.
Why Shehnaaz Gill Believes It Is for the Best
Shehnaaz Gill explained her philosophy about announcing projects before they are fully complete. She said that until a project is entirely ready, one should not talk about it because anything can happen.
“Jitni der tak tumhara project pura ban ke ready nahi ho jata hai, tab tak baat na karo uski kyunki kabhi bhi kuch bhi ho jata hai.”
She also shared that she does not want to raise people’s expectations and then disappoint them. She is aware that if a project does not happen, the audience will have questions. She prefers to avoid that situation by staying quiet until things are certain.
“Mujhe pata hai kal ko nahin hua to log sawaal karenge aur main un ko jawab kya dungi. Logon ki umeedein bhi ban jati hain, to main wo todna nahin chahti.”
This honest admission shows that Shehnaaz values her audience’s trust and does not want to make promises she cannot keep.
Shehnaaz Gill on Not Getting Impactful Roles
During the same interview, Shehnaaz Gill also spoke about her journey in Hindi films. She shared that she has not been getting roles that feel impactful enough. While 100% did not happen, she has been focusing on building her career, especially in Punjabi cinema.
Her last Hindi film was Thank You For Coming, which released in 2023. Since then, she has found more substantial parts in Punjabi films, while her Hindi film appearances have been shorter roles.
When asked if finding the right Hindi role is the reason she has not announced another Hindi film, Shehnaaz said that language is no longer the deciding factor for her.
“Mujhe impactful role hi nahin mile. Jo bhi roles maine kiye, wo impactful nahin the. So, I sat with myself and told myself to choose accordingly, irrespective of the language.”
She is clear that she wants to choose projects that give her something meaningful to do, no matter what language the film is in.
Shehnaaz Gill Learns to Value Her Work
Shehnaaz Gill also reflected on the early days of her career when she worked for free because of her personal relationships with people. She admitted that this affected how others valued her work.
“It is very important to charge for the work that you are doing. If you don’t, then people start undervaluing you and your work. No one will take you seriously, and it has happened in many music videos before.”
She explained that after a point, an actor has to say no to free work because the issue is not just about getting projects, but about being respected for the effort she puts in.
“And, after a point, you have to say no because it’s not about work anymore, it’s about being valued.”
This lesson has clearly shaped how she approaches her career now.
