The much-anticipated Season 2 of Pachinko, starring Kim Min Ha, Lee Min Ho, Jin Ha, and Youn Yuh Jung, wrapped up on October 11, 2024. The intricate, multi-generational story continues to captivate viewers, raising questions about the future of the series and the possibility of a third season.

Plot Overview

Pachinko is based on the bestselling novel by Min Jin Lee, and it weaves the saga of a Korean immigrant family navigating the hardships of Japan’s colonization, wartime struggles, and the aftermath. The second season delves deeper into the family’s life in Japan during the 1940s and ’50s, highlighting their personal journeys and societal struggles.

At the core of the story is Sun Ja, portrayed by Kim Min Ha, who fights for her family’s survival amidst adversity. Lee Min Ho plays Ko Han Su, a complex and morally ambiguous character whose decisions heavily impact Sun Ja and her son Noa. Jin Ha, as Solomon, portrays a third-generation Korean-Japanese, wrestling with his identity and business ethics in 1980s Tokyo.

Season 2 Ending Explained

The final episode of Season 2 is filled with emotional tension and unresolved threads, particularly concerning Sun Ja and her son Noa. In the 1950s timeline, the truth about Noa’s paternity is revealed when he learns that Ko Han Su is his real father. After this discovery, Noa confronts Han Su, a confrontation that shakes him to his core.

Unable to reconcile with this revelation, Noa decides to leave his family. He pays his mother, Sun Ja, one last visit, but does not reveal the truth to her. However, Sun Ja senses something is wrong. When Noa disappears, Sun Ja frantically searches for him, but to no avail. In the final moments, we see Noa adopting a Japanese name and working at a Pachinko parlor, symbolizing his decision to distance himself from his past, his family, and his Korean identity.

Pachinko Season 2 Episode 7: Kim Min Ha and Lee Min Ho Show Emotional Growth as Parents

Meanwhile, in the 1989 timeline, Solomon stands at a crossroads. Despite achieving professional success, his decisions come at the cost of his family’s values. As he prepares for a presentation, his father, Mozasu, watches as Solomon embarks on a path that seems to disregard their immigrant legacy, a heartbreaking moment for Mozasu.

Possibility of a Season 3

With its gripping and emotionally intense ending, Season 2 leaves many storylines open for continuation. The question on everyone’s mind is: will Pachinko return for a third season?

As of now, Apple TV+ has not officially confirmed a renewal for Season 3. However, given the show’s critical acclaim, its dedicated fanbase, and the rich source material yet to be covered, there is potential for another season. The Pachinko novel spans several decades, and the show has only scratched the surface of this multi-layered narrative.

Apple TV+ has yet to comment on any renewal plans, but many viewers are hopeful that the story of Sun Ja, Solomon, and their family’s legacy will continue to unfold on screen.
