South Korean actor Choi Woo Shik, known for his roles in various films and dramas, recently shared his struggles with finding hobbies and admitted to feeling a sense of emptiness in his life. This revelation came during a promotional appearance for his upcoming series, Melo Movie, where he stars alongside Park Bo Young.
A Struggle to Find Leisure Activities
Choi Woo Shik appeared on the BDNS YouTube channel’s talk show hosted by Moon Sang Hoon on February 3, 2025. He discussed his difficulty in finding leisure activities. The actor, who has always enjoyed outdoor pursuits like fishing, cycling, swimming, and camping since his childhood, now finds himself unable to enjoy them. He confessed that his free time no longer includes these activities, and the pressure to force himself to engage in hobbies has become overwhelming. He described his current emotional state as “gray and empty.”
Finding Positives in a “Blank Slate”
Despite these struggles, Choi Woo Shik sees a silver lining in his current state. He believes that feeling like a “blank slate” during his downtime helps him fully immerse himself in his acting roles. This allows him to embody the specific energy required for each character he portrays. He also mentioned that he avoids cutting his hair when not filming, as he never knows what image he’ll need for his next role.
Upcoming Drama: Melo Movie
Choi Woo Shik’s new K-drama, Melo Movie, is written by Lee Na Eun (Our Beloved Summer) and directed by Oh Choong Hwan (Castaway Diva, Big Mouth, Start-Up, Hotel Del Luna). The drama focuses on the lives of individuals in their thirties as they navigate love, dreams, and personal struggles. It explores how people find comfort and inspiration in each other while dealing with traumas and insecurities, embarking on a journey of healing and self-discovery. Melo Movie is set to premiere on February 14, 2025.
