What Happened in Episode 3: ‘Now You See It’
The third episode provided crucial backstory for General Francis Shaw. A flashback to 1908 showed a young Shaw being stalked by a horrifying man in the woods, only to be saved by a young Native American girl named Rose. This early encounter is the reason the adult Shaw is now determined to find and weaponize the creature for the US military.
Meanwhile, the group of kidsโLilly, Ronnie, Will, and Richโdevised a plan to prove that Ronnie’s father, Hank Grogan, is innocent of the crimes he is accused of. They went to a cemetery to perform a ritual to summon the entity, and while fleeing from pursuing spirits, Lilly managed to take photographs. The episode ended on a nerve-racking cliffhanger: one of the pictures revealed a clear, ghostly silhouette of Pennywise the Clown, confirming the creature’s presence.
What to Expect in Episode 4 and the Rest of the Season
Episode 4 will directly follow the kids’ shocking discovery. With photographic evidence in hand, the focus will be on their attempt to convince Police Chief Clint Bowers of the truth to clear Hank’s name. The episode was written by Helen Shang.
The first season of IT: Welcome to Derry will have a total of eight episodes. The release schedule for the remaining episodes is weekly, leading to the season finale on December 14, 2025.
While the series begins in 1962, co-creator Andy Muschietti has a larger plan for the story. He explained his vision for the show, which involves exploring different terrifying eras in Derry’s history.
“The second season will be in 1935. At the end of Season 1, we are hinting at the reason why we are going to tell the story in two more seasons and backwards,” Muschietti told Deadline. He added that his goal was to answer the big questions, “What really happened? What were the causes that led to the burning of the black spot or the massacre of the Bradley Gang?”
