Jacob Elordi has shared new details about the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, suggesting his troubled character, Nate Jacobs, might show a different side. In a recent interview, the actor expressed both hope and uncertainty about this character shift and the new season overall.

The upcoming season, scheduled to premiere in April 2026, will feature a significant five-year time jump, aging the characters from troubled teens into young adults. This change comes after a lengthy production delay caused by industry strikes and the tragic passing of cast member Angus Cloud.

What Jacob Elordi Said About Nate’s New Direction

The news about Nate Jacobs comes from Jacob Elordi’s conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow for Variety‘s Actors on Actors series. Paltrow, who became a fan of the show through her children, asked Elordi directly if his character would be “nicer” in the new episodes.

Elordi confirmed that filming had recently finished and described the new season as a “completely different thing”. When pressed on Nate’s development, he gave a thoughtful but cautious response.

“I really do think [Nate is nicer]. Whether it works or not, I donโ€™t know. Thereโ€™s a chance that what Iโ€™ve done is not good.” – Jacob Elordi

This statement reveals the actor’s own nerves about how the character’s evolution will be received by audiences. Elordi also shared broader thoughts on the show’s intense nature, questioning its relatability to Paltrow as a parent.

Confirmed Plot Points for the New Season

Sam Levinson, the show’s creator, has confirmed several major story details. The most notable is that Nate Jacobs and Cassie Howard, played by Sydney Sweeney, get married. Levinson promised their wedding will be an “unforgettable night”.

The five-year time jump places the characters in new phases of life. Cassie and Nate are reportedly living in the suburbs, with Cassie deeply invested in and envious of the lives she sees on social media. Other characters are on different paths: Zendaya’s Rue is said to be hiding in Mexico from a drug dealer, while Hunter Schafer’s Jules is attending art school.

The extreme secrecy surrounding the scripts has been a topic for the cast. Elordi previously joked that the secrecy level was comparable to “the JFK files,” noting that he had only been allowed to read his own character’s scenes.

Behind the Scenes: Delays and a Changed Cast

The journey to Season 3 has been challenging. The season was officially confirmed in February 2022 but faced immediate delays. Production was heavily affected by the 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which halted filming across Hollywood.

The Euphoria community also suffered a profound loss with the death of Angus Cloud in July 2023. The actor, who played the beloved drug dealer Fezco, was 25 years old. It is not yet known how the show will address his character’s absence in the new story.

Despite the hurdles, filming for the new season began in February 2025 and has now wrapped. The cast has expanded to include guest stars like singer Rosalรญa and internet personality Trisha Paytas.

How the Time Jump Changes Everything

The decision to move the story forward by five years solves a practical problemโ€”the actors have visibly aged since the last season, which was set in high school. More importantly, it allows the show to explore new, more mature themes.

The characters will now grapple with early adulthood challenges, including career pressure, serious relationships, and the lasting impact of their traumatic teenage years. This shift might be the key to Nate Jacobs’ potential softening, as the show examines whether people can change.

Release Information and What to Expect

HBO has set the premiere for April 2026. The season will consist of eight episodes.

While specific plot details remain closely guarded, the combination of a time jump, a major wedding, and character evolution suggests a season that is both familiar and entirely new. As the characters navigate their mid-twenties, audiences can expect the show’s signature visual style and intense drama to continue, even as the settings and conflicts evolve.
