The Night Agent Season 3 has arrived on Netflix, and it delivers one of the most powerful moments yet for Gabriel Basso‘s character Peter Sutherland. The new season, which dropped on February 19, 2026, puts Peter through both physical and emotional challenges, but a particular scene where he gets interrogated by Stephen Moyer‘s character has become a major topic of discussion. Basso recently opened up about filming that intense sequence and what was going through Peter’s mind during those vulnerable moments.
The third season of the hit spy thriller picks up with Peter dealing with the fallout from his deal with shadowy intelligence broker Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). That choice saved Rose and thousands of others but may have swayed a presidential election. Now Peter carries that guilt while diving into a new mission that puts him face-to-face with a dangerous assassin known only as The Father, played by Stephen Moyer .
The Truth Serum Scene That Changes Everything
The interrogation scene happens when The Father captures Peter and uses a truth serum-type drug to force him to reveal everything. For Basso, this was a chance to show a side of Peter viewers had never seen before. The actor spoke with Deadline about how he prepared for the role and what he wanted to bring out in that critical moment .
“I was talking to our technical advisors on how that drug actually works,” Basso explained. “How they explained it was if you were very drunk and went to your buddies and were crying about how you guys get along. He’s in the ‘I love you, man,’ ‘I love you, bro’ drunk phase. Everything is, the minute it pops up into his head, it comes out of his mouth” .
Basso described how the drug affects Peter during the scene. “Some of it is not coherent, some of it is, but I think that he probably won’t remember that that happened. He’ll probably be emotionally exhausted, but having that raw nerve exposed and having someone pick at it until something comes out is a really exhausting experience, I think” .
The actor believes this moment serves a bigger purpose for the character. “I feel like he woke up like, oh, I feel better, something feels better. But I think it’s very important to articulate, to expose what it is that motivates Peter and how he feels about those things. We didn’t get through all of it, there’s more in there, but I think it’s a very important scene for Peter” .
Working with Stephen Moyer
Stephen Moyer, known to many for his role in True Blood, brings a chilling presence to The Father. The character travels with his young son and follows his own strict code of ethics, making him unpredictable and dangerous . Basso had nothing but praise for his scene partner.
“Yeah, Moyer’s great, he crushed it,” Basso said. “It was great. A majority of our stuff was just chasing each other, so to have an actual scene where we got to sit down and act together and Hiro [Kamata], the director for that block, absolutely crushed it. That was a really good experience for me, it was one of the highlights of Season 3, for sure” .
The chemistry between the two actors clearly paid off. Series creator Shawn Ryan told TV Insider that the scenes between Peter and The Father are “highlights of the entire series” and represent “the best acting work that Gabriel has ever done on the show. He and Stephen really brought out the best in each other” .
Why Peter Needed This Moment
Throughout Season 3, Peter carries heavy emotional weight. He made a deal that saved lives but also helped someone corrupt win an election. He’s working without Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who served as his moral compass in previous seasons . And he’s trying to prove himself as a fully capable night agent after spending much of Season 2 learning the ropes.
Basso spoke with Deadline about Peter’s growing desperation. “As the seasons are progressing, he’s getting more and more desperate for truth. I think he’s starved of it in his life” . The interrogation scene forces Peter to confront truths he’s been avoiding, including complicated feelings about his father.
Series creator Shawn Ryan explained Peter’s mindset this season. “Being without her in Season 3, we’ll see him struggle without that deep connection. He’s not over her. She was his moral compass, and without her, he strives to mature and evolve. Having sacrificed being with Rose to keep her safe from his Night Action dangers, Peter faces extra pressure to close the case he’s assigned. The shadow of Rose hangs over Peter in Season 3” .
Peter’s Relationship Status and Future
While fans might wonder if Peter finds romance with journalist Isabel DeLeon (Genesis Rodriguez) this season, Basso made it clear where his character’s heart lies. “He still loves Rose,” Basso told Deadline. “I don’t think he is this character that’s like, oh, Rose isn’t here, so I’m gonna do this. I think he wants a relationship, but at this point in his life and how important he sees this job and rooting out corruption and doing the right thing, I think that ultimately is more important to him than having a relationship” .
The actor added that if Peter were to pursue anyone, “he would probably try to find Rose again and track her down and see what happens with that” . This suggests fans haven’t seen the last of Rose, even though she’s absent from Season 3. Actress Luciane Buchanan previously confirmed she wouldn’t be returning, telling Deadline: “The writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of season two. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever” .
The Physical Toll of Playing Peter
Basso doesn’t just handle emotional scenes. He also performs many of his own stunts, and Season 3 pushed him to the limit. One particular sequence required him to spend hours in a water tank.
“It was because we were in that tank for about eight or nine hours just doing that level of a fight from all different angles, from underwater, from above the surface,” Basso recalled. “It was a lot, the demand was high” .
The actor also mentioned another risky stunt. “That was pretty nuts. But I think that a craziest one in terms of risk was the reverse 180 in Istanbul that I threw because that was going about 30-ish miles an hour, cobblestone, the little crappy Renault. I had about a 10-foot window to throw that in before I was into a thinner lane and concrete” .
A Memorable Line That Resonates
Beyond the interrogation scene, another moment from Season 3 has people talking. Peter tells the President, “With all due respect, Sirโฆ f*ck you.” Basso admitted it felt good to deliver that line.
“It felt good. I think the President in the show views himself as above โ like a majority of the politicians nowadays on both sides view themselves above the law,” Basso said. “And I think to recognize corruption and recognize deception and lying, and be able to call him and be like, ‘Hey, FU’ is good, I think a lot of people will appreciate that” .
New Cast Members Joining Season 3
Season 3 introduces several new faces to the series. Alongside Stephen Moyer as The Father, the cast includes Genesis Rodriguez as journalist Isabel DeLeon, Jennifer Morrison as First Lady Jenny Hagan, David Lyons as Adam (Peter’s potential new partner), and Suraj Sharma as Jay Batra, a financial analyst who finds himself at the center of a deadly conspiracy . Callum Vinson also joins as The Son, the young boy traveling with The Father .

What Critics Are Saying
Early reactions to Season 3 have been overwhelmingly positive. At the time of writing, the season holds a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes . Critics are calling it the show’s “best” and “strongest” installment yet.
One review noted: “The Night Agent takes a big gamble with season three โ and it mostly pays off. Basso still pulls his weight in the fight scenes, which feel refreshingly brutal and grounded. The emotional toll takes precedence though, and therein lies the key to making this series work” .
Another critic wrote: “The Night Agent season three is the show’s best instalment yet, thanks to a tighter narrative, compelling characters, solid action, and great twists” .
However, some reviewers noted the absence of Rose. “One of the biggest changes for the third season is that Luciane Buchanan’s character Rose Larkin isn’t a part of it. It’s a big loss for the show, and that loss is evident in the first episode” .
A Surprising Side Project
Outside of The Night Agent, Basso has been keeping busy with a completely different kind of project. He’s written and illustrated a children’s book called The Growth of Lost Things, which he expects to come out in spring 2026 .
