The wait is almost over for ARMY worldwide. BTS: The Return, the documentary that captures the seven members of the global K-pop group coming back together after completing their military service, arrives on Netflix this week. Following the massive success of their fifth studio album ARIRANG and a historic comeback concert in Seoul, this film offers an exclusive look at the creative process behind their new chapter.

Here is everything you need to know about when to watch, where to stream, and what the documentary covers.

Release Date and Global Streaming Time

BTS: The Return will premiere globally on Netflix on Friday, March 27, 2026. This is an exclusive streaming release, meaning it will not be shown in theaters and will be available directly to subscribers worldwide.

Netflix typically releases its original titles at a standard global time. For BTS: The Return, the documentary will be available starting at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT).

For viewers across different time zones, here is the complete release schedule:

  • United States (ET): 3:00 a.m. ET
  • India (IST): 12:30 p.m. IST
  • United Kingdom (GMT): 7:00 a.m. GMT
  • Australia (AEDT): 6:00 p.m. AEDT (March 27)
  • South Korea (KST): 4:00 p.m. KST

According to confirmed reports, the documentary has a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 33 minutes. If the film does not immediately appear in your Netflix library at the scheduled time, refreshing the app or logging out and back in usually resolves the issue.

Inside the Documentary: The Journey Back

Directed by Bao Nguyen, known for his work on the acclaimed documentary The Greatest Night in Pop, BTS: The Return follows RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook as they reunite in Los Angeles.

The documentary is set against the backdrop of creating their album ARIRANG. It captures the members moving into a shared space in LA for the first time in years, documenting their transition from fulfilling mandatory military service back to being active artists.

“We are finally back where we’re meant to be.” – Jimin in the documentary trailer.

The film provides a look at the pressures of returning to a fast-changing music industry. Footage includes the members in the recording studio, behind-the-scenes moments from their album cover shoot, and personal interviews where each member reflects on their individual growth and what BTS means to them now.

The Larger Comeback Story

The release of BTS: The Return is the final piece of a major comeback project for the group. The documentary premieres exactly one week after the release of their album ARIRANG on March 20, and follows their special live concert, BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG, which streamed on Netflix from Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.

Fans who watched the live event got an exclusive sneak peek of the documentary, which included a clip of a surprise livestream from a Los Angeles beach in 2025 where RM jokingly responded to a fan comment with “Miss you wife,” showing the playful chemistry between the members that remains unchanged.

What to Expect from the Viewing Experience

The documentary is produced by HYBE in collaboration with This Machine. It aims to go beyond a typical concert film, focusing instead on the personal stories of the seven members as they navigate the pressure of a major return.

As the group prepares for their upcoming world tour—which reportedly includes 79 shows across 34 regions starting in April 2026—the documentary serves as a bridge, showing how they rebuilt their sound and bond in real time.

For viewers in India, the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, the documentary will be available with subtitles in multiple languages as standard for Netflix Originals. A Netflix subscription is required to stream the film.
