The “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson is speaking out for the first time since a video of him fighting with a neighbor went viral. Police have now closed the case, saying the actor acted in self-defense.
A physical fight between the 43-year-old actor and his neighbor Ronnie Taylor took place on March 22 in Brentwood, Tennessee. The incident was caught on camera and spread quickly across social media. After a full investigation, local authorities confirmed on March 24 that Ritchson would not face any criminal charges.
How the Fight Started Between Alan Ritchson and His Neighbor
The trouble began on Saturday, March 21. Taylor told TMZ that he saw Ritchson speeding on a green Kawasaki motorcycle through their neighborhood. Taylor admitted that he flipped the actor off, and Ritchson reportedly returned the gesture.
The next day, Ritchson was riding motorcycles with two of his young sons. Taylor walked into the street to block them. Video footage from Ritchson’s own body camera shows Taylor stepping directly in front of the moving bike, causing Ritchson to swerve and fall off.
Taylor later admitted that he pushed Ritchson first. “I did push him because he was coming towards me on his bike,” Taylor told TMZ. “He did it again for a second time. I pushed him a second time, and I think the second time he got off his bike and kicked the crap outta me.”
The bodycam footage shows the two men arguing. Ritchson tried to walk away and get back on his bike. But Taylor kept yelling and again stepped in front of the motorcycle. The situation then turned physical, with Ritchson punching Taylor several times.
Police Decision: No Charges for the “Reacher” Star
Brentwood Police Captain Steven Pepin released an official statement on March 24 explaining the decision.
“After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued. Mr. Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense.”
The police also looked into a possible reckless endangerment charge against Taylor. But Ritchson chose not to press charges against his neighbor. The case is now officially closed with the agreement of the District Attorney’s Office.

Alan Ritchson’s First Comments After the Fight
On March 25, Ritchson shared a video on Instagram showing himself in a recording booth. He was working on post-production for “Reacher” Season 4. In the clip, he talked about having a “crazy week.”
“Happy to be back in the booth after such a crazy week!” the actor wrote. “That’s a wrap for me on post-production — #Reacher Season 4. This is, without a doubt the most gripping season yet. I think we hit our stride. Firing on all cylinders… as it were.”
Earlier, on March 23, Ritchson had posted a cryptic quote on Instagram attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte. It read: “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.” Many fans saw this as a reference to the fight with his neighbor.
What the Neighbor Said About the Confrontation
Taylor, who is a 56-year-old senior executive for KPMG USA in Nashville, gave his version of events to TMZ after the fight. He showed reporters his injuries, which included bruises and swelling on his face.
“On Sunday, when I was cleaning my bike outside my house, he rode past once, twice and on the second time, I walked out in front of him, and I said, ‘You got to stop. Someone’s going to get hurt,’” Taylor said.
He added that he was worried about children in the neighborhood. “I don’t really wish the guy any malice or ill will, but we just don’t need people riding through neighborhoods like this,” Taylor told TMZ. “I just decided I’m going to take a stand because someone has to, or it’s going to end up way worse.”
Fan Reactions to the Viral Video
Social media users quickly shared their thoughts after the full bodycam footage came out. Many fans pointed out that Ritchson was protecting himself and his children.
One fan commented on his Instagram post: “Imagine pushing JACK REACHER in front of his two boys.” Another wrote: “We’re all on your side bro… defending yourself and your children.”
Some fans also noted how the situation could have been worse if Taylor had stepped in front of the motorcycles with Ritchson’s kids nearby.
What’s Happening With “Reacher” Season 4
The timing of the incident came as Ritchson was finishing work on the fourth season of his hit Prime Video series. In his Instagram video, he spun around in the recording booth to show the TV screens and confirmed that he had completed his part of post-production.
“Here we are, in the ADR booth for the very last time for Season 4 of Reacher. There it is, we are dunzos. This thing is gonna be hitting airwaves very soon. Best season yet,” he said in the video.
The series, based on Lee Child’s novels, has made Ritchson a major action star. His other acting credits include “Fast X,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” and the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movies.
