The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+, and the conversation around the show has taken a sharp turn. Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays the villain Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), dropped a bold statement about Deborah Ann Woll‘s character, Karen Page. He called her a “killer,” reminding everyone that this fan-favorite character has a dark past that still matters today. The show premiered on March 24, 2026, and fans are already talking about how the series is leaning into the grittier side of these heroes.
Karen Page’s Dark Secret Comes Back Around
For those who watched the original Netflix Daredevil series, the idea of Karen being dangerous is not new. Back in Season 1 of that original show, Karen shot and killed James Wesley, Wilson Fisk’s closest friend and assistant. At the time, it was a moment of desperation. She was trying to save her own life. But in the world of Marvel’s Hell’s Kitchen, actions have long memories.
Vincent D’Onofrio pointed out that sweet and innocent appearance is not the whole picture. He described Karen in very blunt terms:
“She may be all those sweet little things that [Charlie Cox] said, but she’s also a killer.”
This is not just an insult from the Kingpin. It is a fact of the story. Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock (Daredevil), also confirmed that Karen has changed. He said she is “more badass in this season than we’ve ever seen her.”
Why Is Karen Page More Dangerous Now?
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 picks up after a lot of tragedy. At the end of the first season of Born Again, Foggy Nelson (played by Elden Henson) was killed. This broke up the original trio of Nelson, Murdock, and Page. Karen moved away, but now she is back in New York full-time.
The trauma of losing Foggy has changed both Matt and Karen. Showrunner Dario Scardapane explained that bringing Karen back was always the plan. He said she is “an integral part of the resistance” against Mayor Fisk. She is no longer just the secretary or the worried friend. She is in the fight.
Executive producer Sana Amanat added that Karen has evolved so much over the years, especially after her time on The Punisher series with Jon Bernthal. Hanging around characters like Frank Castle (The Punisher) leaves a mark. It seems Karen has learned that sometimes, to survive against monsters like Fisk, you have to play by different rules.
A Complicated Romance with the Devil
While Karen might be getting tougher, her relationship with Matt Murdock is also a major focus of Season 2. Charlie Cox described their current situation as a “respite” from the world. They are leaning on each other because they have almost no one else left.
However, Vincent D’Onofrio‘s comment adds tension to that romance. Matt Murdock has a strict rule against killing. It is part of his Catholic guilt and his code as a vigilante. If Karen is willing to cross that line, and Matt is not, it sets up a major conflict between the two lovers.
The show is also pulling directly from the Daredevil comics, where Matt’s relationships usually end in disaster. Whether it is Karen, Elektra, or Heather Glenn, Matt’s life as a vigilante makes it almost impossible to have a healthy relationship.
What This Means for Kingpin
If Karen is a “killer,” she is a specific threat to Wilson Fisk. She is one of the only people still alive who directly murdered someone Fisk cared about (Wesley). While Fisk has a new wife, Vanessa, and control of New York City as the mayor, he likely has not forgotten what Karen did.
Season 2 shows Fisk crushing the city under his boot. He is hunting Daredevil. But if he gets close to Karen, fans know she won’t go down without a fight. D’Onofrio has teased that this season is “f***in brutal” and finally “the show we wanted to make” when comparing it to the Netflix original.
