The second half of Boston Blue Season 1 is currently airing on CBS, and star Sonequa Martin-Green says viewers should prepare for some major surprises. The actress, who plays Detective Lena Silver, recently opened up about the remaining episodes, warning that the story is about to get much bigger.
Martin-Green spoke with Collider about the direction of the show after the winter break. She explained that the creative team is raising the stakes, and the upcoming plots will push the characters further than before.
“It is. Especially coming back from the holiday break, I think that people are going to be pretty knocked back by the size and scope and depth of the stories in the second half of the season,” Martin-Green said.
Her comments suggest that fans should expect larger cases, more intense emotional moments, and deeper looks into the lives of the Silver family.
New Episodes Bring Bigger Cases and Emotional Turns
The actress hinted that the “size and scope” of the coming stories means the show is moving beyond standard police work. Viewers can likely expect more complicated investigations, possibly involving more locations or bigger consequences. The mention of “depth” points to the show exploring the personal struggles and ethical problems the characters face.
Martin-Green also talked about her character’s life outside of the job. She shared that she wants to see what Detective Lena Silver does to relax after tough days on the force.
“I would say that it would be great to see what Detective Lena Silver’s self-care day looks like. People who work these kinds of jobs, it’s survival. It is imperative that they check out and decompress,” Martin-Green explained.
She noted that the show already touches on how the characters spend their off days, and she enjoys seeing that side of them.
More Reagan Family Members Are Coming to Boston
The second half of Boston Blue Season 1 is also bringing back familiar faces from Blue Bloods. Fans of the original show can expect to see several Reagan family members appear in Beantown.
Bridget Moynahan returns as Erin Reagan-Boyle later this season. She will also direct an episode. Len Cariou will reprise his role as Henry Reagan, also known as Pop Reagan, in an episode scheduled for April. Marisa Ramirez is set to appear as Detective Maria Baez as well.
Showrunner Brandon Margolis teased that even more Reagans could show up. He told TV Insider that the team is looking for the right stories to bring other family members into Danny and Sean’s world.
Margolis also gave fans hope about seeing Jamie Reagan, Eddie Janko, and their baby. “There is a non-zero percent chance we will see the baby in Season 1 of Boston Blue,” Margolis said.

Danny Reagan Finds a New Family in Boston
The midseason finale ended with Danny Reagan deciding to stay in Boston permanently. After his son Sean was injured, Danny came to help. Now, he has found a second family with the Silvers.
Co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier explained that family is the only reason Danny would leave New York. “The only reason he would leave New York was for family. The only reason he would stay is for family,” Sonnier told CinemaBlend.
Danny proved this when he offered to help Jonah Silver after a deadly fight. Because he is not related to the Silvers by blood, Danny can investigate the case without a conflict of interest. He told Lena, “I think I’m gonna need that Boston badge after all.”
The Boston Blue cast also includes Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, and Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan.
New episodes of Boston Blue air Fridays at 10/9c on CBS. Viewers can also stream episodes on Paramount+.
