The wait is over for fans of the Prime Video series. The Boys Season 5 debuted its first two episodes on April 8, 2026, and one of the biggest questions from last year now has a clear answer. Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) injected herself with Compound V at the end of Season 4 to survive Homelander’s purge. Everyone wanted to know what power she got. The show finally shows it in episode 2, and it is not what most people expected.
Ashley can read minds. But that is only half of the story. The real surprise hides under her wig. A second face has grown on the back of her head. The cast and creators are calling this second personality Bashley (short for Back Ashley). This clone speaks the thoughts Ashley is too scared to say out loud. It acts like a conscience that she cannot escape.
Ashley’s New Power Comes With a Living Conscience
The reveal happens in The Boys Season 5 episode 2. Ashley is sitting in a car. She takes off her wig. The camera shows a complete second face on the back of her skull. This face talks to her. It argues with her. It tells her that she is working for a monster.
Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, told Variety that the team wanted to give Ashley the grossest power possible. He said the best powers on the show work as metaphors for what the character is going through. For Ashley, that means fighting with herself every single day.
“The thing I love about that power is that the best powers are metaphors for what that particular character is going through. So she’s a little bit at war with herself, and so it was just like, let’s give voice to that conscience.” – Eric Kripke to TV Insider
The second face has an official name. Kripke confirmed they call her Bashley. She represents the person Ashley used to be before fear took over. Bashley wants Ashley to stand up to Homelander (Antony Starr). She wants her to stop the government from putting Starlighters into camps. But Ashley keeps refusing. She says staying quiet is the only reason she is still alive.
Why Fans Are Comparing Ashley to a Harry Potter Villain
The moment Ashley removed her wig, many viewers made the same connection. The second face on the back of her head looks very similar to Professor Quirrell from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In that movie, Quirrell has Lord Voldemort’s face on the back of his head.
Fans on social media started calling it Voldemort vibes right after the episode aired. The comparison spread quickly across Twitter and Reddit. Some viewers joked that Ashley is now the most unexpected crossover character in television.
Kripke was asked directly about the Harry Potter connection. He told Variety that it was not the inspiration for the idea. The writers’ room did not start with that comparison. But he admitted that the visual effects team looked at the Harry Potter movies while trying to figure out how to make the effect work. The goal was always to make it as disgusting as possible. The Harry Potter connection just happened on its own.
Ashley Still Cannot Control Her Powers Properly
Having mind-reading abilities sounds powerful. But The Boys Season 5 makes it clear that Ashley is not good at using them yet. She tries to read Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) in episode 2. It does not work. Sage brushes her off easily. She knows how to block Ashley’s attempts.
This weakness matters for the story. Ashley has the job of Vice President of the United States in Season 5. She speaks for Homelander’s regime. She tells the public that everything is fine while the government locks up anyone who resists. Her powers could help her find secrets. But she cannot even read one person correctly.
The struggle makes Ashley more interesting. She is not a hero. She is not a fighter. She is a scared person who took a dangerous drug to save her own life. Now she has to live with the results. And those results include a second face that never stops telling her she is wrong.
What Bashley Wants From Ashley
The conversations between Ashley and Bashley are some of the strangest moments in The Boys Season 5. Bashley does not hold back. She calls Ashley a coward. She reminds her of the times she could have spoken up but chose to stay silent.
Bashley represents the guilt Ashley feels. Deep down, Ashley knows that Homelander is destroying the country. She knows the freedom camps are wrong. But she has spent her whole career staying alive by pleasing powerful people. Changing now could get her killed.
The show uses this split personality to show Ashley’s internal fight. One episode shows Bashley lecturing Ashley about her lack of action. Ashley argues back that passivity is keeping them breathing. But Bashley keeps pushing. She asks what the point of staying alive is if you have to become a monster to do it.
Kripke explained that Bashley is the voice of who Ashley used to be. Before Vought broke her down, she had better instincts. The question for the rest of the season is whether Ashley will ever listen to that voice again.
Colby Minifie Knew the Power Would Be Humiliating
The actress behind Ashley, Colby Minifie, talked about her character’s transformation before the season came out. She told multiple outlets that she pitched several ideas to the writers. Every single one of them was designed to be embarrassing for Ashley.
Minifie told Entertainment Tonight that the power they chose is perfect for her. She said she does not think they could have picked anything better. The actress also shared that she got to explore some really fun physical stuff while filming. The second face required special effects work every time she was on set.
Before the reveal, Minifie hinted that the power had to be humiliating and disgusting. She said those are the two requirements for anything in the world of The Boys. Getting superpowers is not cool or glamorous on this show. It is usually gross and sad. For Ashley, who cares so much about her image, having a second face on her head is the worst possible outcome.

Will Ashley Turn Against Homelander Before the End
The setup is clear. Ashley has a voice inside her head that wants her to do the right thing. She has powers that could help her spy on Homelander’s plans. But she is also terrified. She saw what happened to A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) in episode 1. Betraying Homelander means death.
The remaining six episodes of The Boys Season 5 will show whether Ashley finds the courage to listen to Bashley. The show has turned scared characters into unlikely heroes before. But Ashley has spent four seasons running away from every difficult choice. Changing now would be the biggest moment of her life. It might also be her last.
