The Cannes Film Festival 2025 is bringing Hollywood’s biggest names to the French Riviera. From A-list actors to acclaimed directors, this year’s event promises star power and high-profile premieres. The festival runs from May 13 to May 24, with films competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or.

Tom Cruise will return to Cannes for the out-of-competition premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The action star last attended in 2022 for Top Gun: Maverick. His latest film, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is expected to draw huge crowds.

Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix are part of Ari Aster’s competition film Eddington. The Western-style drama also stars Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler. Aster, known for Hereditary and Midsommar, brings another intense story to Cannes.

Scarlett Johansson has double duties this year. She stars in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, alongside Tom Hanks and Benedict Cumberbatch. She also makes her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb as a 90-year-old woman rebuilding her life in New York.

Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence will attend for Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love. The psychological drama follows a woman’s descent into madness after childbirth. Ramsay’s films often stir strong reactions, making this a must-watch.

Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal star in The History of Sound, a World War I-era romance about two men recording folk music. The film has been highly anticipated since its announcement in 2021.

Kristen Stewart arrives with her directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir. The film explores trauma and creativity, with Imogen Poots in the lead role.

Harris Dickinson, known for Triangle of Sadness, will present his first film as a director, Urchin. The drama follows a homeless man in London trying to turn his life around.

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington team up again for Highest 2 Lowest, a crime drama inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low. This marks Washington’s first time at Cannes.

Julia Ducournau, the Titane director, returns with Alpha, a disturbing tale set in 1980s New York. The film stars Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim.

Other notable attendees include Richard Linklater (Nouvelle Vague), Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind), and Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value). The festival will also honor Robert De Niro with an honorary Palme d’Or.

The opening film is Leave One Day, a French comedy-drama by first-time director Amélie Bonnin. Juliette Binoche leads the competition jury, which includes Halle Berry and Jeremy Strong.
