Finn Wolfhard has opened up about filming the emotional final season of Stranger Things, expressing his excitement for the conclusion of the Netflix hit series. In an interview with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival, the actor, who has been part of the show since he was 12, discussed his feelings about saying goodbye to the iconic show.
Final Season Reflection
Wolfhard, now 22, spoke candidly about how emotional the last day on set was for him and the rest of the cast. “It was incredibly emotional, obviously,” he shared. After nearly a decade of working together, saying farewell to the crew, cast, and creator was a challenging moment for everyone involved. Wolfhard reflected on the long journey, emphasizing that for some cast members, Stranger Things has shaped much of their childhood.
He likened the bittersweet farewell to a moment from Toy Story 3, when the toys are left behind, calling it “really special.” The emotional tone of the series conclusion is evident, as it marks the end of a chapter for both the characters and the people behind the scenes.
Intense and Special Filming Experience
The final season of Stranger Things required a year-long shoot, described by Wolfhard as being similar to the lengthy production schedules of Lord of the Rings. The actor explained that the season was “intense,” yet full of memorable moments that made the long process worthwhile.

New Project: The Legend of Ochi
In addition to his thoughts on Stranger Things, Wolfhard discussed his upcoming project, The Legend of Ochi, which marks his first media appearance since wrapping up filming for the final season. Directed by Isaiah Saxon, the film combines elements of puppetry, animatronics, matte paintings, and 3D animation to create a unique visual experience.
The film’s story follows a farm girl named Yuri, who lives in constant fear of a dangerous animal species called ochi. After discovering a wounded baby ochi, Yuri embarks on a quest to protect it. Wolfhard, along with co-stars Helena Zengel, Emily Watson, and Willem Dafoe, worked with practical effects and creatures, making their acting experience more interactive and hands-on.
