The new Harry Potter television series is giving fans a fresh look at the magical world. HBO Max released a short promo video on May 24, 2026, showing the young wizard on the Quidditch pitch. This marks a shift from earlier teasers that focused more on mood and character introductions.
The promo arrives as part of a larger HBO Max lineup video. The streaming platform used the opportunity to showcase its late 2026 slate. Harry Potter appeared alongside other big titles like Lanterns, The Gilded Age, and Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. This placement makes it clear that the series is a major priority for the service.
Quidditch Takes Center Stage in New Footage
The latest footage puts broomstick flying and school sports at the front of the marketing campaign. The decision to highlight Quidditch is smart because it shows what the TV series can do that feels fresh. The shot includes the Gryffindor team in their uniforms, with close attention paid to details like the embroidered cloaks and the black and red box for the Nimbus 2000.
Fans who study the books closely noticed something important in this new clip. The Quidditch match shown is not the one against Slytherin that appeared in the 2001 movie. Instead, the footage shows Gryffindor facing off against Hufflepuff. That match was cut from the original film directed by Chris Columbus.
This difference matters for the story. The Hufflepuff game takes place soon after the Slytherin match. During this time, Harry starts to suspect that Professor Snape is trying to harm him. The book uses this period to build up Harry’s fears about Snape’s loyalty. The movies had to trim this storyline due to time limits.
“Including these scenes will go a long way in making Harry’s motivations more cohesive, and is confirmation that the reboot isn’t just talking about being more faithful to the books. It actually will be.”
Paapa Essiedu, who plays Professor Snape in the new series, recently shared a funny story about filming Quidditch scenes. He told Esquire that the production built an entire stadium for the matches. The set used a mix of green screens and animatronics, which he called “completely insane.”
Essiedu also admitted to falling off his broom during filming. He was about three feet off the ground when he lost his grip and ended up hanging from the broom. What made it worse was that no one laughed. He said, “Being in a room of silent staring people as you’re hanging off a broom is not a good vibe.”

Small Details Fans Found in the Teasers
The Quidditch focus is just one part of what fans are noticing. A TikTok creator named Brett Ball, who has over 400,000 followers, pointed out seven book details hidden in the earlier March teaser.
One detail involves a coat hanger hanging in Harry’s cupboard under the stairs. Ball explained it is not random. The Dursleys gave Harry that coat hanger for his 10th birthday. It hangs there because it is one of the few things Harry actually owns.
Another moment shows a snowball fight. In the books, Fred and George Weasley enchant snowballs to hit Professor Quirrell in the back of his turban. The funny part is that Lord Voldemort is hiding under that turban. So the twins were unknowingly throwing snowballs at Voldemort.
The teaser also shows a ghost floating in a classroom. Ball believes this is Professor Binns, the ghost who teaches History of Magic. This character never appeared in the movies, so his presence would be new for viewers who only watched the films.
Fans online shared their excitement after watching the teasers.
“As a 35 year old millennial who’s entire life has been a HP obsession, I think it looked so good and I had a tear in my eye. I felt 10 again.”
“I’m gonna be sat with book 1 pointing out anything they left out.”
The prop department also paid attention to the broomsticks. In one shot, a Gryffindor player holds a school broom that looks rough and bobbly. Harry’s Nimbus 2000 next to it is smooth, polished, and elegant. The detail shows the quality difference between the school’s shared brooms and the top-of-the-line broom Harry receives as a gift.
