John Krasinski and Chris Evans, both actors who have portrayed characters from the Marvel superhero family in separate timelines, recently joined forces for a humorous ‘80s-themed sketch on The Late Show. The skit featured Krasinski, crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive 2024, attempting to teach Stephen Colbert how to be more attractive through a series of absurd methods that humorously escalated as they unfolded.
Comic Sketch Takes Unexpected Turn with a DNA Stealing Attempt
The sketch began lightheartedly, with Krasinski offering Colbert quirky “tips and tricks” for enhancing his attractiveness. However, it quickly took an unusual turn when Krasinski instructed Colbert to locate Evans—also a former PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive (2022)—and obtain his DNA to boost Colbert’s appeal. Committed to the bizarre mission, Colbert approached Evans in the studio and surprised him with a sudden swab attempt. The startled Evans, coughing in response to Colbert’s intrusive approach, reacted with a baffled “What the f—?” to which Colbert replied, “I need your spit to make me sexy!”
Once the DNA was acquired, Colbert returned to Krasinski’s lab, where the sketch ramped up in its humorous intensity. Krasinski introduced Colbert to a convoluted scientific process, explaining that they would extract Evans’ “sexy DNA” and fuse it with Colbert’s using a genetics lab funded, as he humorously claimed, “using the money you made from The Office re-runs.”
Experiment Goes Awry with Comedic Results
Following the acquisition of Evans’ DNA, the skit saw Colbert undergo a series of steps to embrace his “new look.” In an exaggerated sequence, Krasinski urged Colbert to engage in “sexy-exercise” routines on a treadmill before he administered a DNA serum crafted from Evans’ genetic material. However, Krasinski cautioned that the transformation would be intense. Describing the process in a mock-scientific tone, he stated, “Now, the transformation takes about 14 hours during which your body will try to reject every cell within it.” Colbert then dropped to the floor in a faux display of discomfort, clawing at his throat as Krasinski elaborated, “Much like a butterfly, your internal organs reorganize themselves into a more beautiful and symmetrical formation.”
After an intense “recovery” phase, Colbert awoke to reveal his new look. Krasinski cheered, “It worked! Stephen, you look amazing!” A delighted Colbert responded, “I feel amazing! I feel like the Sexiest Man Alive!” To which Krasinski humorously added, “Sure, maybe in 2022, but this year, it’s me.”
Marvel Universe Connections Highlighted in Sketch
Though Krasinski and Evans both have ties to Marvel’s Fantastic Four, the two actors have never shared screen time as members of Marvel’s iconic superhero team due to the different timelines of their respective portrayals. Evans starred as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), and he has recently reprised the role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Meanwhile, Krasinski portrayed a version of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). Despite their absence from a unified Fantastic Four storyline, both actors’ Marvel roles provided a humorous context for their on-screen reunion.
In addition to Evans and Krasinski, other actors have also taken on Fantastic Four roles. Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan played Reed Richards and Johnny Storm, respectively, in Fox’s 2015 Fantastic Four reboot. Looking ahead, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn are expected to step into the roles in Marvel’s forthcoming Fantastic Four: the First Steps film.
The sketch concluded with Colbert embracing his comically transformed self, capping off a skit that showcased Evans and Krasinski’s humorous chemistry and underscored the longstanding Marvel ties between the two actors. For fans, the segment served as a light-hearted nod to their shared but separate histories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
