Apple TV’s crime thriller Lucky wrapped up its seven-episode run on August 19, 2026. The finale, titled “All Good Things,” gave viewers a closing chapter for Anya Taylor-Joy’s character Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong. But the ending left many people asking one question: Could the con artist return for more?
The show’s creators Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas have now spoken about whether Anya Taylor-Joy might come back for a second season. Their answer is clear, but they left a small door open.
The Finale Gave Lucky What She Always Wanted
The season ended with Lucky finally getting free. After all the running, stealing, and surviving, she walked away from everything – the money, her father, and her old life.
In the final episode, Lucky and her father John (played by Timothy Olyphant) made it out alive after a tense standoff. Priscilla (Annette Bening), Lucky’s mother-in-law and a crime boss, chose to shoot Wayne instead of Lucky. The pair survived with millions of dollars at their disposal.
But Lucky made a choice that defined her character. When her father asked what to do with all the money, she gave up her share and left him. She realized that John never loved her the way a father should. Walking away from him was her first step toward a real life – one where she could grieve her husband Cary and figure out who she really is.
“From the minute we started plotting the season, we always believed that for Lucky to truly be free and take her first steps into a new life, she has to do that alone. She can’t take the money with her, she can’t take her father with her, she can’t take Cary with her; she has to be stripped of everything in order to figure out who she is.”
The final shot showed Lucky standing alone on a beach, breathing in the ocean air. It was a moment of peace for a character who had spent her whole life running.
Showrunners Say the Story Is Complete
Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas have been clear about their intentions. The show was always planned as a limited series, not the start of a long-running show.
Apple TV itself called Episode 7 the “series finale” and referred to it as “the gripping conclusion of limited series Lucky”. The streaming platform has not renewed the show for a second season.
Tropper explained why bringing Lucky back could hurt the story they already told.
“For me, there was such a deeply character-driven story to tell here about this father-daughter relationship and this young woman’s need to get out and start living. So sucking her into it again, you risk just trivializing all the themes we played with her.”
He added that a sequel wouldn’t have the same weight.
“The danger with sequels like that is always, at what point does it become The Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii? You have to really have a reason to do it.”
Cassie Pappas echoed this sentiment. She told The Hollywood Reporter that the team hasn’t even discussed a second season.
“We have not talked about it. It definitely was designed to be a limited series, and we made sure to tie up all the loose ends as best as we could to where it was satisfying.”
There Is Still a Small Chance
While the creators see the story as finished, they haven’t completely closed the door.
Tropper left some room for possibility in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“If somehow one of us came up with an amazing idea, it would be worth considering. But I think there’s something very complete about the story we told.”
This means a second season isn’t impossible – but it would need a really good reason to exist. The creators don’t want to make more episodes just because people want them. They want a story that matters.
Another factor could change things. Author Marissa Stapley, who wrote the original novel Lucky, is working on a sequel book called No Such Thing as Lucky. The sequel is scheduled for release in 2027.
Lauren Neustadter, president of Hello Sunshine (the production company behind the show), spoke about this possibility.
“[Lucky the TV show was] always conceived as a limited series, so that is absolutely the way that it was made. But when an author says, ‘I feel inspired to keep going,’ there’s truly no greater compliment and nothing more exciting for us, because we love these characters and we just want to spend more time with them.”
If Stapley’s sequel book provides a strong new story, Apple TV might have the material they need to bring the show back.

What Did Fans Think About the Ending?
Viewers had mixed feelings about the finale. Many appreciated that Lucky finally got her freedom after everything she went through. Others felt the ending left some questions unanswered.
The show followed Lucky as she tried to recover millions in stolen money while being chased by the FBI and her own criminal family. The money was converted to cryptocurrency, and the seed phrase to unlock it was hidden inside a teddy bear. In a final twist, Lucky replaced the seed phrase with a recorded message for her father.
Some fans pointed out that Priscilla survived the finale, which could set up more conflict if the show returned. Others noted that Anya Taylor-Joy herself hasn’t said anything about coming back for another season.
The show also had a surprising moment when Drew Starkey’s character Cary died earlier in the season. The creators later admitted they didn’t know how popular Starkey was with fans until after they killed off his character.
For now, the story of Lucky Armstrong appears to be over. The creators designed the show with a clear beginning, middle, and end. They wanted to tell a complete story about a woman breaking free from her past.
That doesn’t mean fans should give up all hope. If the sequel book takes off and someone comes up with the right idea, Anya Taylor-Joy could return as the con artist who finally found her freedom.
But as Jonathan Tropper made clear, any return would need to respect the character’s journey. Lucky earned her peace. Bringing her back would require a story that matters just as much as the one they already told.
Lucky is now available to stream in full on Apple TV+. All seven episodes are currently available for viewers to watch.
