What Happened in Magical Girl Lyrical NANOHA EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance Episode 1
Episode 1, titled “Shiina Kuze Origin: The Reason a Girl Living on a Remote Island Came to Live as a ‘Majin’ and the Story That Begins There,” introduced the main characters and the world.
The story begins with Shiina Kuze, a 17-year-old high school girl who works as a hunter on a remote island off the coast of Tokyo. She hunts invasive alien monsters that came from another dimension. These creatures almost destroyed Earth 30 years ago. Shiina’s parents were killed in the alien attack. She took in an 11-year-old girl named Setsuna and became her adopted sister. They live together in a fortified home.
One night, a strange man breaks through their gate. His arm turns into tentacles, and he calls Shiina a “Diaboli” (Majin). Shiina shoots him with a shotgun, but it has little effect. A monster tries to get Setsuna inside the house. Shiina kills it, and they flee to a ruined parking garage. Shiina places Setsuna in a car trunk and kills nearby monsters. They get surrounded, and Shiina gets knocked down. Setsuna’s memories awaken, and she transforms. She kills all the monsters but only wounds the male Diaboli chasing them. Setsuna explains she is also a Diaboli. Shiina does not care and still loves Setsuna as her sister.
The male Diaboli stabs both of them. Shiina loses consciousness and wakes up in a pool of blood. The Diaboli appears to have consumed Setsuna. As it tries to eat Shiina, Setsuna passes her powers to her sister. Shiina uses these powers through her guns and kills the Diaboli. The incident is covered up. Shiina goes to the ruined mainland to hunt Diaboli monsters. She is now a Diaboli and absorbs energy from other Diaboli when they die.
One day, Shiina sees a giant Cragworm approaching her camp. She spots a girl there. The girl activates a staff and easily knocks out the worm. Shiina thanks the girl, who identifies herself as Takamachi Nanoha.
