The Apple TV+ series Widow’s Bay took a sharp turn with its sixth episode, titled “Our History.” Instead of continuing the present-day story of Mayor Tom Loftis, the show jumped back more than 400 years to explain how the island’s curse began. This special flashback episode brought in two well-known guest stars to play the key figures from the town’s dark past.
Episode 6 Takes Viewers Back To 1702
Episode 6 of Widow’s Bay arrived on May 27, 2026. For viewers in the US, the episode dropped at 3 a.m. Eastern Time. Fans in the UK could watch it at 8 a.m. British Summer Time, while audiences in India got access at 12:30 p.m. Indian Standard Time. The episode is shot in black and white, giving it a grim, old-fashioned feel that matches the colonial time period.
The story begins on September 16, 1702. A woman named Sarah Westcott arrives by ship to marry Richard Warren, the founder of Widow’s Bay. Right away, Sarah notices something is wrong. A strange sickness is spreading through the town. And her new husband behaves in disturbing ways that make her fear for her safety.
Betty Gilpin Plays Sarah, The Woman Who Fought Back
Betty Gilpin stars as Sarah in Widow’s Bay Episode 6. Gilpin is known for her roles in GLOW, American Primeval, and Mrs. Davis. Her character arrives as a spinster sent to care for Richard’s motherless children. But Sarah quickly realizes she has walked into a nightmare.
Sarah watches as Richard attacks and kills a townsperson named Ezra who speaks out against him. She learns that Richard made a deal with dark forces to protect the island. In return, he gained strange powers and became nearly impossible to kill. But the deal also forced him to make terrible choices that cost innocent lives.
Sarah refuses to stay quiet. She teams up with a man named Collins, played by David Dean Bottrell, to fight back against Richard. Collins tells her the truth about Richard’s arrangement with “the devil.” Together, they plan to trap Richard and end his reign of terror.
Hamish Linklater Brings The Villain Richard Warren To Life
Hamish Linklater takes on the role of Richard Warren in Episode 6. Linklater has appeared in Midnight Mass, Gen V, and Batman: Caped Crusader. His character is the founder of Widow’s Bay. On the surface, he acts like a leader trying to protect his people. But underneath, he has become something far darker.
The episode shows that Richard made a deal with the devil to save the town from destruction. That deal turned him into an immortal demon. He believes the awful things he does are necessary for the greater good. As Linklater explained, Richard thinks he is doing the best for the community. He tries to keep as many people alive as possible. But he is willing to kill anyone who gets in his way.
At the end of Episode 6, the townspeople manage to drug Richard and bury him alive. But that does not kill him. The episode cuts back to the present day, where Mayor Tom Loftis digs up Richard’s still-living body in a desperate attempt to break the curse. What comes out of that grave is very different from the man who went in centuries ago.
