The second season of Running Point dropped all 10 episodes on April 23, 2026, and fans have been processing that wild finale. Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) finally does what she set out to do, guide the Los Angeles Waves to a championship victory. But here is the thing, winning the trophy turns out to be the easy part. The real pain comes the morning after when she watches television and sees her brother Cam (Justin Theroux) building a new team right in her backyard.

This article breaks down exactly what happened in those final moments, from the championship game heroics to the betrayal that changes everything for the Gordon family.

The Waves Finally Capture the Championship Title

The entire second season builds toward the ABL finals matchup between the Los Angeles Waves and the Boston Pilgrims. This is not just any rivalry, Boston is coached by Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), the former Waves coach who also happens to be Isla’s love interest. The personal stakes could not be higher for her.

The road to the trophy is filled with obstacles. Star player Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman) suffers a serious knee injury that threatens to keep him off the court. Dyson Gibbs (Uche Agada) is emotionally distracted after his breakup. The locker room tension between players nearly tears the team apart at the worst possible moment.

Isla steps up in a big way during the finals. She studies Boston’s game film and realizes the only way to beat them is to copy the aggressive strategy that Chicago used against them earlier in the playoffs. This moment shows Isla growing beyond just being a front office executive, she is actively shaping what happens on the court.

Marcus makes a dramatic return during the finals. He hits a game-winning three-pointer that secures the championship for the Waves. Confetti falls. The trophy gets lifted. For one night, everything Isla has fought for feels worth it.

Cam Gordon Secret Plot to Destroy Isla Fails

While the Waves battle on the court, Cam has been working behind the scenes to take back his old job as team president. He returns from rehab at the start of Season 2 claiming he supports Isla, but the truth is much darker. Cam only gave her the job because he assumed she would fail.

Throughout the season, Cam engages in some seriously shady behavior. He embezzles $2 million from the Waves to pay for his early release from rehab. He lies about staying sober and actually relapses, using his brother Jackie’s (Fabrizio Guido) urine to pass his drug tests. He partners with Al Fleischman (Ken Marino), the so-called “toilet king of Orange County,” to buy enough board shares to control the team.

By Episode 8, Cam and Al successfully purchase shares from three board members, giving them 40% plus Cam’s 12% to control the Waves. Cam reclaims his spot as president, and everything Isla built seems about to crumble.

But Jackie saves the day. He secretly records Cam admitting that he has relapsed and is using Jackie’s urine for drug tests. The Gordon siblings take this evidence to the board, the deal with Al gets canceled, and Cam’s shares get redistributed among his siblings. Isla gets her job back, and Cam gets kicked out of the franchise for good.

Ali Lee Leaves and Returns After Isla Fights for Her

The tension between Isla and her best friend Ali Lee (Brenda Song) reaches a breaking point this season. Ali has been taken for granted for too long, first getting her office stolen by Cam and moved to a conference room, then getting her request for a raise ignored by Isla.

Magnus (Tommy Dewey), the general manager for the Toronto Raptors known as “The Poacher,” shows up in Los Angeles. Everyone assumes he wants to steal Dyson Gibbs, but he is actually there to offer Ali a promotion with more money and real responsibility. Ali takes the job, and Isla feels completely betrayed. The two get into a major fight.

Isla eventually realizes how badly she messed up. She travels to Toronto wearing a dramatic white coat and scarf combination and fights to win her friend back. The scene works because Hudson and Song have genuine chemistry, something Hudson talked about publicly.

“On a day-to-day basis, it’s me, Brenda, and a bunch of boys. Thank God it’s Brenda because she is just the greatest, funniest, most down, talented woman, and she’s become a really good friend.”

Isla Love Life Ends and Reboots in Complicated Ways

Lev Levenson (Max Greenfield) takes Isla back after the drama of Season 1. They make it all the way to their rehearsal dinner before Isla realizes she cannot balance her commitment to the Waves with a serious relationship. The two break up for good this time.

Isla enjoys some casual dating, including some flirting with Luke McShay (Scott Speedman), a tenant in her arena. But she keeps coming back to thoughts of Jay, the coach she kissed at the end of Season 1. Jay left Los Angeles for Boston to be closer to his family, and the two reconnect when he returns to the West Coast.

Their relationship becomes complicated for obvious reasons. She runs the Waves. He coaches the Pilgrims, her biggest rival. The finals matchup puts them on opposite sides, and the show does not resolve where they stand by the end of the season.

The Morning After Brings a Shocking Betrayal

The championship victory happens at the end of Episode 10. Isla celebrates with her family and friends. The Waves are world champions. Everything feels perfect.

Then the next morning happens.

Isla, Ness (Scott MacArthur), Sandy (Drew Tarver), Jackie, and Ali gather around the television. Cam and Al appear on screen to announce they have purchased a team called the LA Industry. They plan to make it the best basketball franchise in Los Angeles. Then Cam drops the real bombshell, he has hired Jay Brown as the new head coach and part-owner of the LA Industry.

The look on Isla’s face says everything. She just won the championship, but her brother has declared war. Her ex-coach and romantic interest just joined the enemy. The victory that should have been her greatest moment now feels hollow and temporary.

What Happens to Other Characters in the Finale

The Waves City Dancers go on strike this season over poor treatment, low pay, and a remote parking lot. Isla negotiates with them alongside lawyer Diane Robichaux (Octavia Spencer). As part of the deal, Isla agrees to join the dancers for one performance. She puts on orange sequins and blue sneakers and dances to Ciara’s “Get Up”.

Norm Stinson (Ray Romano) gets hired as head coach after Jay leaves. Isla picks him over a flashier college coach named Danny Pierce, and the choice works out. Norm’s unconventional methods help the team reach the finals and win it all.

Jackie gets offered a summer opportunity to go to Europe. His family teases him about not being “the girl who didn’t go to Paris,” referencing Lauren Conrad from The Hills. He decides to go, which has led some fans to wonder if a crossover with Emily in Paris could happen someday.

Benny Gordon (Ike Barinholtz), the show’s co-creator, appears on screen this season as the Gordon family cousin, adding another layer to the already complicated family dynamics.

Kate Hudson on What Makes the Show Special

Hudson has been open about why she wanted to do this series. After years of making movies, she was looking for something that would let her spend more time with a character.

“I’ve been wanting to do a series. If I’m gonna spend my time doing something, it’s going to be Running Point.”

She also earned an Oscar nomination in 2026 for her role in Song Sung Blue, proving she can balance both film and television work at the highest level.

The show is loosely inspired by Jeanie Buss, the real-life owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, who also serves as an executive producer on the series.
