Noah Reid is trading small-town comedy for small-town medicine. The Schitt’s Creek star will guest star in Season 2 of Sheriff Country, the CBS police procedural set in the same universe as Fire Country. His appearance is designed to set up a potential medical spinoff, informally called Edge Med, with Reid positioned as the lead.
CBS confirmed the news on September 11, 2026. Reid will play Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw, the chief of emergency medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital—also known as “Edge Med.” The guest spot will serve as a backdoor pilot for the proposed spinoff, meaning the episodes will double as a test run for a new series centered on the medical team in Edgewater, California.
Who Is Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw
The character description paints a picture of a doctor with a complicated past. Dr. Henshaw is described as “charming and quick-witted but rough-around-the-edges.” He was “born and raised in the outlaw hinterland known as Deadwater” and is the “proud son of convicted felons.” Despite his family background, he “refused to take the family’s drug money to pay for medical school.”
The description adds that Hud is “a passionate doctor who embodies his oath to ‘first do no harm,’ yet is not one to shy away from a good bar fight.” He is deeply committed to the community he grew up in, but remains “a restless soul all the same.”
Deadline reports there was a “lengthy casting search” before Reid landed the role. The actor, 39, is best known for playing Patrick Brewer on Schitt’s Creek, a role that made him a fan favorite. He has also appeared in Outer Range on Prime Video and The Vampire Lestat on AMC. His next project is the Crave series Yaga, set to premiere in October.
How the Edge Med Spinoff Would Work
The potential spinoff is still in early development at CBS. No official series order has been given yet. If CBS moves forward, the show would follow a medical team operating in Edgewater, California, the same fictional Northern California town where both Fire Country and Sheriff Country are set.
The untitled project comes from CBS Studios and would be executive produced by Matt Lopez, Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, and Jerry Bruckheimer with KristieAnne Reed for JBTV. The show is being referred to internally as Edge Med, a nickname based on the hospital’s shorthand name.
This would be the third series in the growing Fire Country universe. The franchise started with Fire Country, a drama about firefighters in Edgewater. That show launched a spinoff, Sheriff Country, which follows Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox. Now a medical drama would add a third pillar to the franchise.

Sheriff Country Season 2 premieres on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS. The show will also stream on Paramount+. The series airs on Friday nights, following the same schedule pattern as its first season.

Season 2 of Sheriff Country is bringing several new and returning faces to Edgewater. Ben McKenzie—who is married to series star Morena Baccarin in real life—will guest star in the Season 2 premiere as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff. The couple previously worked together on Gotham.
Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan have been promoted from recurring cast members to series regulars for Season 2. Arcuri plays Mickey’s daughter, while Quinlan plays Deputy Ramos. The main cast also includes Christopher Gorham, Michele Weaver, Matt Lauria, and W. Earl Brown.
