Poorna Jagannathan recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her character. She said Zoe is not just a simple villain. Jagannathan described her as “a victim of what the Guardians have created, a victim of her programming, a victim of perception.” That quote changes how fans see the relationship. The actress also said the creative team “really wanted this Manhunter to feel human emotions, and yet her programming will always get the better of her.” That means Zoe may care for John, but her programming could push her to do things she does not want to do.
Jagannathan also revealed something surprising about Zoe’s motives. She explained that Zoe’s “MO” is to identify her biggest threat and then have sex with them. The goal is to get close and then flip them. In hindsight, that makes every scene between John and Zoe feel much more calculated.
