A notoriously tough lawyer has let her guard down. In the newest episode of Landman, Rebecca Falcone faces her fear of flying and an unexpected romantic encounter, a storyline the show’s star says adds new depth to her character.

Season 2 of Taylor Sheridan’s oil industry drama continues to stream weekly on Paramount+. The fourth episode, titled “Dancing Rainbows”, premiered on Sunday, December 7, 2025. In this installment, audiences see a rarely vulnerable side of Rebecca, the sharp M-Tex Oil attorney played by Kayla Wallace. The character’s journey from a controlled professional to someone caught in an “uncomfortable situation” marks a pivotal moment in her development.

Rebecca’s Unexpected Journey in Episode 4

The episode follows Rebecca as she boards a private company plane to deal with a serious accident involving an M-Tex truck. She is seated next to a charming oil driller named Charlie, played by Guy Burnet. Rebecca confesses she has “control issues,” and her anxiety spikes as the flight hits heavy turbulence.

To calm her nerves, she drinks from Charlie’s thermos, which contains a mix of vodka and watermelon juice. The alcohol transforms her fear into exhilaration by the time of the rough landing. The story takes a turn when Rebecca wakes up the next morning in Charlie’s bed, clearly embarrassed but also intrigued by the man and his upscale bathroom products.

“It’s a very uncomfortable situation for her, but she’s so strong that she can handle it,” Kayla Wallace told Variety. “When she lets her guard down and ends up in this situation, it’s a bit jarring for her… it makes her more human.”

Wallace explained that this moment pushes Rebecca far outside her normal, controlled routine. For an actor, exploring these new sides of a typically “boarded-up” character was a rewarding challenge.

How the Actors Approached the Storyline

The dynamic between Rebecca and Charlie is built on contrast. Wallace described Charlie’s energy as “so opposite from the way she is”. In the tense situation on the plane, he becomes the “cool cucumber” she needs, while Rebecca perceives the turbulence as a disaster.

Wallace shared that filming the sequence was an enjoyable technical challenge. The production built the interior of a private jet on a soundstage and physically shook it to simulate turbulence. Shooting the scenes in order, from nervousness to drunken relief, allowed for a natural performance arc.

“It was such a release just to be able to belly laugh over the ridiculousness of what’s happening,” Wallace said about filming the intoxicated landing scene. “Guy is feeding watermelon juice to me. It’s spilling all over my costume… it was a blast.”

The morning-after scene was filmed without a body double, with Wallace noting the crew was “really wonderful and protective” of her comfort. A small but telling detail that piques Rebecca’s curiosity is the array of high-end grooming products in Charlie’s bathroom, a stark contrast to the basic soap she uses in Texas.

Rebecca’s Character and Her Role in M-Tex

Before this personal detour, Rebecca was defined by her career. Wallace stated that for Rebecca, success has always been “at the very top of any priority over anything in her life”. Initially introduced as an external lawyer frequently at odds with Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris, her role has shifted.

She is now the in-house counsel for M-Tex Oil, fighting for the company and Tommy instead of against them. Wallace believes the immense challenges facing the company are helping to melt away prior distrust and bring the characters together.

This new vulnerability does not erase her core strength. Wallace approaches scenes knowing Rebecca is a fighter who must “come out on top,” but she carefully builds the performance to show the struggle, making her victories feel earned.

What This Means for the Rest of Season 2

The “Dancing Rainbows” episode arrived midway through the ten-episode season. While the future of Rebecca’s dynamic with Charlie remains to be seen, Wallace has hinted that the mystery around him may be explored further.

“You might get some answers on the mystery and some more conflicts within the personal side of Rebecca’s life,” Wallace teased about the remaining season.

This character development comes as Landman continues to be a major success for Paramount+. The series was recently renewed for a third season. It set a record as the streaming service’s most-watched original series after its first season.
