The fragile alliance holding M-Tex Oil together is cracking under new pressure. In Landman Season 2, Episode 6, titled “Dark Night of the Soul”, a major deal is struck that changes everything. Cami Miller finalizes a massive financial bailout with the mysterious Dan Gallino, a move that leaves Tommy Norris cornered. The episode, which streamed on Sunday, December 21, centers on this tense negotiation and its personal fallout for everyone involved.
Tommy sees the agreement with Gallino as a dangerous trap, but Cami views it as the only lifeline to save her late husband’s company. This clash of perspectives creates a major rift at the top of M-Tex, putting Tommy’s future as company president in serious doubt. Meanwhile, personal stories about family, memory, and new beginnings run alongside the high-stakes business drama.

A Closed Deal and a Growing Divide
The central event of the episode is the finalization of a deal between M-Tex owner Cami Miller and financier Dan Gallino. In the previous episode, Cami agreed to accept a $500 million loan from Gallino to solve the company’s urgent cash flow problems. In Episode 6, she makes it official, signing the papers that tether M-Tex’s future to Gallino’s money.
The negotiation happens at a horse auction in Fort Worth, where Gallino introduces Cami to local high society, including philanthropist Kit Moncrief. Tommy is present but largely sidelined. He voices his strong objections, warning that mixing with Gallino’s worldโwhich is known to include cartel activitiesโis a grave mistake. However, Cami ends the discussion and finalizes the deal herself, a clear sign of her eroding trust in Tommy’s leadership.
Tommy later confesses his fears to Gallino himself, admitting, “She don’t trust me ’cause she thinks I’m a loserโฆ And she thinks I’m gonna lose her fortune.” He explains that Cami sees him as the man whose own oil business failed during the 2008 financial crash, making him unfit to safeguard Monty’s legacy.
Gallino, surprisingly, becomes Tommy’s unlikely advocate in the moment. He warns Tommy that “sharks” within the company will smell Cami’s doubt and try to poison her against him. He even suggests that Tommy’s position as president is now at risk because of Cami’s growing distrust. The episode ends with the deal done, Cami feeling secure, and Tommy more isolated than ever, knowing he must navigate a crisis where his boss no longer has his back.

Family Wisdom and Making Memories
While Tommy grapples with corporate trouble, his personal life offers its own lessons. His father, T.L. Norris, has moved in and insists on joining Tommy’s trip to Fort Worth. T.L. serves as a blunt, weathered voice of wisdom throughout the journey, pushing Tommy to confront his unresolved feelings for his ex-wife, Angela.
The father-son trip takes a dramatic turn when T.L. gets into a physical fight with an old colleague at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The fight starts after the man makes disparaging comments about Tommy’s late mother, Dottie, a sensitive subject for T.L.. In the emotional aftermath, T.L. reveals the depth of his grief over Dottie’s decline after the death of their infant daughter, a tragedy Tommy never fully understood.
This confrontation leads to T.L.’s core advice for his son. He urges Tommy to stop living in the past and to actively create new happiness while he still can.
“Your memory-making days is about behind you, son,” T.L. tells Tommy. “And trust me, living off ’em isn’t no living at all. You gotta make ’em while you can.”
This theme of choosing life over memory echoes elsewhere. Ariana’s grandmother, Isabel, offers a similar perspective, telling Ariana that while she can love the memory of her late husband, “it can’t love you back,” giving her blessing for Ariana to move forward with Cooper.
Other Plots: Rings, Robots, and Romance
Beyond the main crisis, other character stories advance. Cooper’s plan to propose to Ariana moves forward. After getting approval from her father, he seeks advice on buying an engagement ring. His mother, Angela, makes a generous and symbolic offer: she will give Cooper the engagement ring Tommy gave her, wanting to “keep the love in the family”. Angela then joins the Fort Worth trip with daughter Ainsley for a shopping spree, declaring, “Diamonds are in Dallas”.
At an oil industry trade show, roughnecks Dale and Boss see a threatening vision of the future. They observe automated drilling machinery that promises to do the work of four men with one machine. The scene highlights the anxiety that technology could eventually render their dangerous jobs obsolete.
A subplot focuses on lawyer Rebecca Savage, who is racing to start an offshore drilling operation to satisfy insurance lawyers. She needs an expert geologist and discovers the man hired for the job is Charlie, the charming stranger she had a one-night stand with in a previous episode. Their professional meeting is filled with flirtatious double entendres about drilling, suggesting their personal connection is far from over.
