The eighth and final season of the hit Starz series Outlander will premiere on Friday, March 6, 2026. New episodes from the 10-part season will be available to stream weekly on Fridays via the Starz app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms, with the season finale expected in May 2026. The announcement confirms the conclusion of the epic television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, bringing the decades-spanning story of Claire and Jamie Fraser to an end.
Starz recently released a new teaser trailer featuring a somber warning from Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan: “nothing can prepare you for how it ends”. The network has also confirmed the final opening title sequence, a new rendition of “The Skye Boat Song” performed by Annie Lennox.
What Will Happen in the Final Season?
The official description for Season 8 states that Jamie and Claire, portrayed by Caitríona Balfe, will find that the American Revolutionary War has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge. The settlement has thrived and changed in their absence, and new arrivals force the Frasers to confront what they are willing to sacrifice for their home and for each other.
“While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside,” reads the season’s official logline. “Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”
The season is expected to resolve the major cliffhanger from Season 7 concerning the fate of Claire and Jamie’s first daughter, Faith, who was believed to have died in childbirth. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has indicated that answers will come quickly, stating, “When you leave a storyline hanging off a cliff, you owe the audience solid ground—and quickly”.

Production on the final season wrapped in late September 2024. Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts shared his thoughts on ending the series, emphasizing the team’s focus on making a great final season rather than a farewell.
“We didn’t want to make a farewell,” Roberts said. “We wanted to make a great season of Outlander—stay true to the characters, stay true to the story, and trust that if we honored what made this show resonate in the first place, the ending would take care of itself.”
While the main series concludes, the world of Outlander will continue. The prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which explores the love stories of Jamie’s and Claire’s parents, debuted earlier this year and has already been renewed for a second season.
