The CBS comedy “Ghosts” delivered another fun episode on May 14, 2026, with Season 5 Episode 20 titled “Polar Opposites.” The episode brought back a familiar face from Season 2 and showed the Woodstone Mansion ghosts working together to help Samantha chase a big dream.
A Producer Returns With A Reality Show Deal
Paula, the producer who first came to Woodstone in Season 2 to scout for a documentary called “Dumb Deaths,” returned to the mansion. This time she wanted to film a new season of a reality show named “It’s Getting Hot in Here: All Star Edition.”

The ghosts saw this as a chance. Alberta pushed Samantha to tell Paula about the holiday romantic comedy script she had been writing called “Polar Opposites.” Sasappis reminded Sam that Joan, another producer, had said she liked the script. But Sam felt nervous because the writing wasn’t finished and worried Paula would not like it.
With encouragement from the ghosts, Samantha showed Paula the script anyway. Paula agreed to read it. But then Joan admitted she only said the script was good to be nice. The truth was the script needed a lot of work, and if Paula read it in that shape, it would go nowhere.
Samantha managed to take the script back for one night. Joan decided to help by pulling an all-nighter to rewrite it with her.

Flower Hosts A Ball And Thor Learns A Lesson
The episode also focused on Flower, who had been elected as Ghost Representative. Hetty suggested Flower host an inaugural ball to celebrate. Isaac immediately wanted to give long speeches, but Hetty stopped him. She convinced Isaac that he needed to stay outside during the event as the surviving ghost leader in case some ghosts got “sucked off.”
Thor, now calling himself the “First Gentleman,” wanted to help Hetty plan the ball. Hetty agreed but quickly regretted it. The two had completely different ideas about everything. They finally asked Flower to choose who had the better plan.
Pete presented both ideas without saying who came up with which one. Flower chose Hetty’s plan. Thor felt angry and frustrated and stormed out, saying he no longer wanted to help.
Flower went after him and asked why he felt so strongly about planning the party. Thor admitted he was scared. He worried that because Flower was now Ghost Representative, she would not need him anymore. He wanted to feel useful.
“Flower assures him that her slightly busier schedule will only make her value her free time that she wants to spend with Thor even more.”
The Ghosts Pull Off A Clever Plan
Back with the script, Joan and Samantha worked through the night making edits. But they disagreed on the ending. Samantha wanted the female protagonist, Jenny, to end up single. Joan said she should stick to rom-com rules and give her a happy ending with a partner.
Samantha refused to change her ending. So Joan convinced Sasappis to go into Paula’s dream to find out if she preferred happy endings or unusual ones.

Sasappis entered Paula’s dream but could not get a straight answer. Paula kept asking for context, which led the conversation in different directions. However, the conversation in the dream made Paula believe she had come up with the story idea for “Polar Opposites” herself.
Samantha knew Sasappis and Joan were behind this. Isaac suggested showing Paula the actual script. But Sam worried Paula would not believe it was her original work.
Joan then came up with a bold plan: gaslight Paula into thinking Samantha gave her the script the night before, and Paula forgot because she took an Ambien sleeping pill. The ghosts, Jay, and Samantha worked together to pull it off.
Paula saw the “Polar Opposites” script in the trash, which Samantha had planted seconds earlier. She believed she had forgotten about it. Paula read the script and loved it. She had only one note: the couple should end up together at the end.
Episode 20 Ending Brings Good News
The episode closed with positive developments. Paula booked Woodstone Mansion as the filming location for “It’s Getting Hot in Here: All Star.” She also sent Samantha’s script to the studio, and they wanted to read it.
The episode earned positive reactions from viewers who enjoyed seeing all the characters work together again. One review noted that while the gaslighting plan could have been problematic on another show, “Ghosts” handled it with enough grace because the ghosts were trying to help Sam rather than being selfish.
Isaac, meanwhile, remained in the woods at the end of the episode, still believing the party was ongoing and he needed to stay out.
