The third episode of Hacks final season arrived on April 23, 2026, delivering plenty of awkward dates, broken hearts, and surprising business moves. Titled “No New Tricks,” the episode follows Deborah Vance as she navigates a new romance with a younger musician while Ava Daniels stumbles into her own complicated fling. Meanwhile, Marcus starts planning his next big project. The episode runs for about 30 minutes and is now streaming on HBO Max in the United States. For viewers in the UK, the episode became available on April 24, 2026 at 2:00 AM BST on Sky and NOW TV. Australian audiences can catch it on Stan from April 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM AEST, while Indian viewers got access at 6:30 AM IST on the same day.
Deborah Gets a Date With a Younger Star
The episode begins at a Palmetto party where everyone is celebrating Nico Hayes, the new artist in residence played by Christopher Briney. Deborah wears a flashy dress that she admits is uncomfortable but knows it will get her pictures in the press. She handles the red carpet like a pro, making sure all eyes stay on her.
At the party, Marty introduces his new fiancée Victoria to Deborah and Ava. Deborah jokes about Marty’s many weddings, comparing them to a medical procedure that happens every five years. Marty explains that Victoria wanted something small, but since this could be his last wedding, he wants to go all out.
Deborah gets introduced to Nico later that night. He tells her he is a big fan and says she inspired him to do his residency. He calls her an icon, which clearly makes Deborah feel good. The next day, her manager Jimmy calls to say Nico’s publicist reached out. Nico wants to take Deborah to dinner. Pictures of them together at the party are already making waves online, with fans calling them “Nicorah.”
Deborah assumes the dinner is just a publicity move. She thinks Nico wants more press for his residency and she wants more attention for her upcoming Madison Square Garden show. She sees it as a win-win situation. She even calls her favorite paparazzo to make sure photographers show up.
Both Dates Go Better Than Expected Before Falling Apart
Deborah’s dinner with Nico takes her by surprise. He opens up about his past and how his parents sold his childhood photos to the media. He explains that this betrayal pushed him to get emancipated. Deborah connects with his story because she understands how fame can hurt the people close to you.
After dinner, paparazzi surround them as they leave. Deborah acts surprised even though she set the whole thing up. She goes home feeling happy because the date felt real, not just a planned media event. She invites Nico to be her plus one at Marty’s wedding, and he says yes.
Ava’s date goes in a completely different direction. She meets Eli, played by Grady Eldridge, at the party. He tells her he is a sex worker, and instead of being put off, Ava seems more interested. They go on a date that goes well until Eli shares his true dream. He wants to become a professional magician and only does sex work to pay his bills. Ava’s excitement disappears immediately.
The second date between Deborah and Nico takes an ugly turn. Nico rents out an entire restaurant so they can have privacy. When they leave, a paparazzo gets angry because Deborah and Nico are not giving good photo opportunities. The photographer mentions that Deborah called them during the first date. Nico hears this and his whole mood changes. He feels used. He tells Deborah to get out of his car right there in front of the cameras and says he will not go to the wedding with her.
Back home, Deborah finds out Nico has blocked her. He also writes a song called “Funny Girl” with a line that says “Funny how you lie so easily.” Ava points out that the whole situation is actually giving Deborah more publicity for her Madison Square Garden show, but that does not make it hurt less.
Marty’s Wedding Ends in Disaster and Marcus Gets a New Partner
The wedding scene brings more chaos. Just as Victoria starts walking down the aisle, federal agents arrest her for fraud. Her real name is not Victoria. Marty stands at the altar completely crushed. Deborah goes to comfort him, and he actually asks her to marry him. She says no but tells him to keep his heart open.
Deborah realizes something important after talking to Marty. Taking risks matters, even when they do not work out. She finds Marcus and tells him he should buy the Paradiso casino after all. She offers to do the project with him as partners. Marcus agrees right away.
Earlier in the episode, Marcus had visited the old casino with his friend Wilson. He met a real estate agent named Meredith, played by series creator Lucia Aniello in her on-screen debut. Meredith flirted with Marcus, but Wilson accidentally revealed he was Marcus’s partner. Meredith did not care. She still wanted to hang out with both of them.
“Since it’s the last season, it was a now or never situation” – Lucia Aniello on making her cameo appearance
Carl Clemons-Hopkins brings a warm energy to Marcus as he pursues this new venture. His character has been mostly on the sidelines in recent seasons, so seeing him take on a big project feels satisfying for longtime viewers.
Smart Performances Drive the Episode
Jean Smart continues to show why she has won multiple awards for this role. Her Deborah Vance remains sharp and funny but also vulnerable in ways she rarely allows people to see. The scene where she realizes Nico has blocked her hits hard because viewers know she genuinely started to care about him.
Hannah Einbinder plays Ava’s awkwardness perfectly. Her date falling apart because the guy wants to be a magician is classic Hacks humor. It is silly but also true to Ava’s pattern of jumping into things without thinking them through.
Christopher Briney brings charm to Nico, which makes his sudden turn feel believable. He is not a villain. He is someone who felt lied to and reacted badly. The show does not let Deborah off the hook either. She did treat their first date as a business move.
Christopher McDonald gets a memorable exit from the series as Marty. His character has been part of the show since early seasons, and watching him get left at the altar is both sad and funny. Deborah’s advice to him about still taking risks even after getting hurt feels genuine.

What the Episode Sets Up for the Rest of the Season
Deborah now heads into her Madison Square Garden preparations with a fresh heartbreak but a new business partner. Marcus has the backing he needs to restore the old casino. Ava learned that not every interesting person turns out to be what she expected.
The episode does not push the main story forward much. Deborah still needs to fill Madison Square Garden on September 11. She still has to prove she belongs on that stage. But the detour into her personal life shows how fame and genuine connection rarely mix well.
The wedding disaster and Nico situation both remind Deborah that control is an illusion. She can call the paparazzi, but she cannot make someone stay interested. She can plan every detail of her career, but she cannot plan how people will react when they feel hurt.
