The worlds of Young Sheldon and Ghosts nearly collided in a recent episode, and now the actor behind the boy genius is sharing exactly what his famous character would do if he ever checked into Woodstone Mansion. Iain Armitage, who played Sheldon Cooper for seven seasons, made a guest appearance on the CBS comedy Ghosts Season 5 Episode 16, titled ‘Woodstone Royale’. While he played an exaggerated version of himself in the episode, the idea of a true crossover with his former character is something he has clearly thought about in detail.
During a conversation with Collider, Armitage painted a vivid picture of Sheldon Cooper navigating the haunted halls of the bed-and-breakfast. Given Sheldon’s strict reliance on logic and science, the encounter would not go smoothly for the spirits.
“I would love an episode of Sheldon running around trying to debunk the possibility of there being paranormal activity, ghosts, and bringing in EMF readers and all these different things,” Armitage said.
He explained that the hyper-rational character would spend the entire time explaining why the supernatural is scientifically impossible, likely annoying the ghostly residents. Armitage suggested the episode would end with Sheldon getting a rude awakening.
“And then at the end, just getting, I don’t know, jumpscared by Thorfinn or something would be really fun,” he added.
A Longtime Fan Finally Gets His Chance
The guest spot on Ghosts was a long time coming. Armitage, now 17, admitted he was “not subtle” about wanting to be on the show. He has been a dedicated viewer since the series first aired.
“Absolutely. I’ve been a massive fan of Ghosts for a really, really, really, really long time. Pretty much a day one US Ghosts fan,” Armitage told TV Insider.
He revealed that he practically begged for a role, saying he would have taken any part, even standing silently in the background for a few seconds. When the email finally came offering him a spot, he was “so excited and overjoyed.” The episode, which aired on April 16, 2026, features Armitage joining a high-stakes, illegal poker game at the mansion while researching a role for an “edgy” poker movie.
The ‘Young Sheldon’ Reunion on Set
One of the highlights for Armitage during the filming of Ghosts was reuniting with a familiar face. Danielle Pinnock, who plays the Jazz-age lounge singer Alberta on Ghosts, also appeared as Ms. Ingram, the math teacher, on Young Sheldon.
“It felt really full circle,” Armitage said. He praised Pinnock as one of his favorite actresses to work with, noting the great energy she brings to any set. This reunion added an extra layer of warmth to the guest appearance, blending the casts of the two beloved sitcoms.
Wishing for a Permanent Stay at Woodstone
While Armitage enjoyed his time as a living visitor, he already has plans to return in a different form. He joked with several outlets that he wants the writers to kill off his character.
“I would like to be killed off on Ghosts so badly… or even have temporary death,” he said. As a living person in the world of Ghosts, his character could not see or interact with the spirits, which he found frustrating.
Armitage explained that if he became a ghost, he could finally hang out with the main cast. “It would be really fun to get to be on there and interact with the spectral presences in a slightly more obvious way,” he shared. He is not ruling out a return, noting that he has “options” and that there is now a home for a character he loves.
The Poker Game Goes Wrong
The episode ‘Woodstone Royale’ saw Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) organizing a secret poker night to raise money for the IRS. Armitage joins the game as a celebrity player.
Chaos ensues when Jay excitedly posts a selfie with the Young Sheldon star on social media. This alert leads two police officers to the mansion, who bust the illegal gambling operation and confiscate all the money, leaving the couple back where they started. Despite the financial loss for the Woodstone owners, Armitage’s comedic timing as a “slightly annoying” version of a child actor trying to be “edgy” provided one of the season’s biggest laughs.
