The reality TV world is mourning the loss of Darrell Sheets, best known as “The Gambler” on A&E’s hit series Storage Wars. Sheets passed away at the age of 67 on April 22, 2026, at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. As news spread, his former co-star Brandi Passante publicly shared her grief and sent strong support to Sheets’ ex-wife, Kimber Wuerfel, along with the rest of his family.
Authorities confirmed that officers arrived at Sheets’ residence around 2 AM following a call about a deceased person. The Lake Havasu City Police Department stated that Sheets appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was moved to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for a full examination. The police department noted that the incident remains under active investigation.
Following the news, Passante took to social media to express her shock. She posted several throwback photos of herself with Sheets from their time on the show. In her message, she specifically mentioned Kimber Wuerfel, Sheets’ former wife, along with his son Brandon Sheets and granddaughter Zoe.
“I’m at a loss for words! I’ve known Darrell Sheets for many years. I’m just so very sorry to hear the circumstances of his passing. My heart hurts for Brandon, Zoe, and Kimber.”
Who Is Kimber Wuerfel and Why Is She Getting Support
Kimber Wuerfel is a successful real estate agent based in Orange County, California. She and Darrell Sheets met in a rather unexpected way back in 2012. According to reports, Sheets was driving on a highway in Anaheim when he saw Wuerfel in the car next to him. He followed her for a few miles, then left his phone number on a piece of paper under her windshield wiper.
Wuerfel decided to call him, and the two talked for hours. They became a couple shortly after. Sheets proposed to her later that same year. He even moved from San Diego to Huntington Beach to be closer to her. The couple married at some point, though the exact date of their wedding was never shared publicly. They eventually separated in 2016.
Even after their divorce, Wuerfel and Sheets stayed friendly. In a social media post from September 2024, Sheets still referred to Wuerfel as “my girl.”
Professionally, Kimber Wuerfel has been working in Southern California real estate for over two decades. She runs her own team of agents and helps people buy and sell homes, especially in the Orange County area. During her marriage to Sheets, she helped him run his antique business called Havasu Show Me Your Junk. She also assisted in building his website and managing his warehouse operations.
Brandi Passante Uses Her Platform to Share a Serious Message
Brandi Passante did not just stop at offering condolences. She used the tragic moment to speak directly to people who might be struggling with their mental health. Passante revealed that she has lost a parent and a brother to similar situations. She urged anyone feeling hopeless to reach out for help immediately.
“I would like to say to everyone, if you are struggling, if you feel hopeless or like no one cares. I assure you they do!! You are not alone. Please reach out for help. You are not taking your pain away; you are transferring it to someone else. The grief from suicide is endless. There is always help… Never suffer in silence!”
Passante shared the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number in her post, encouraging her followers to dial it if they need someone to talk to.
Other cast members also reacted to Sheets’ passing. Rene Nezhoda, who often competed against Sheets on the show, posted a video addressing the tragedy. Nezhoda explained that while they played rivals on television, they were actually friends in real life. He mentioned that Sheets had been dealing with cyberbullying from an individual online prior to his death. The Lake Havasu City Police Department confirmed to media outlets that they are aware of these accusations and are looking into them as part of the investigation.
