ABC’s police drama Will Trent just delivered a major shock to its viewers. The April 14 episode killed off a main character, leaving fans reeling and searching for answers. Sonja Sohn, who played the tough but caring GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner since the show began, has finally broken her silence about the sudden exit.

The death happened during a dangerous secret mission. Amanda was working with the FBI to help Will Trent (played by Ramón Rodríguez) build a case against the villain Adelaide Trevens. In a terrible turn, Adelaide showed Will Amanda’s body as a brutal warning. The moment left audiences stunned and angry on social media.

When You Get The Pink Slip, You Just Say Goodbye

Sonja Sohn did not stay quiet for long. On April 18, the 61-year-old actor posted two videos on Instagram to talk directly to her followers. She admitted she was “surprised by the response to Amanda’s death.” The love and support from fans were much bigger than she expected.

In her videos, Sohn spoke openly about how the entertainment business works. She did not hide the fact that leaving the show was not her choice.

“Once you get the pink slip, it’s just a job. I got a job like you got a job. It’s just a job. Actors are really low people on the totem pole when it comes down to the big structure. When you get a pink slip, you don’t ask about it. You just say goodbye.”

Her words gave fans a rare and honest look at what happens behind the scenes. She explained that actors often have to accept these decisions without fighting back.

A Difficult Goodbye For The Cast And Crew

Even though the news was hard, the show’s producers said Sonja Sohn handled it like a professional. Co-showrunner Karine Rosenthal told Variety that Sohn learned about Amanda’s ending early in Season 4. She took the information with “grace.”

Executive producer Daniel Thomsen also praised her attitude.

“Nobody gets to always exit their shows – even on the writing side – on their own terms all the time. It’s hard to do that with grace. So it was just very impressive. She is a total pro.”

The writers decided to kill off Amanda because they wanted to shake up the show’s direction. Rosenthal explained that Amanda was always the one who protected Will. With her gone, the GBI will get a new leader who does not share that same bond with him. This change will force every character to deal with the loss in different ways.

What Amanda’s Death Means For The GBI Team

The April 21 episode, titled “Our Last Dance,” showed the team trying to find Amanda’s killer while also grieving. Faith Mitchell (played by Iantha Richardson) had a very hard time because Amanda was not just her boss. Amanda was her mother’s best friend and helped raise her. Faith called her “Aunt Mandy.”

At a small service for Amanda, Captain Heller gave a short speech about her. He remembered her old nickname “Wags” from when they started their careers together. Faith also spoke about what Amanda meant to her.

“Well, Amanda had more faith in me than I did. She would always tell me to do better, to be better. She saw potential. She had this really great gift of meeting you where you were, seeing who you could be, and pushing you down that path no matter how stubborn you were.”

Will Trent missed the gathering. Instead, he tried to record his thoughts but could not find the right words to say about his mentor.

Sohn’s Next Projects And Promise To Fans

Even though Sonja Sohn is leaving Will Trent, she is not slowing down. She told her Instagram followers that she has many plans for the future. She is working on a memoir where she will share more stories from her career.

“You’re gonna learn about the first time I almost got written off a show on The Wire. That’s part of the first chapter of my memoir. I got three chapters left to write.”

She promised fans that there is “plenty of Sonja Sohn coming up.” She wants to give her supporters something exciting to look forward to. In her Instagram caption, she wrote:

“I cannot adequately express the overwhelming gratitude I feel for the @willtrentabc fans who have poured their hearts out on my page. I promise to honor that by giving you something you can sink your teeth into & celebrate with me in the not so distant future.”

She ended her video message on a hopeful note, saying, “The best years are yet to come.” She raised a toast to the show and to her character, calling the role “an honor and a privilege.”

Will Trent airs new episodes every Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC. Fans can also watch episodes the next day on Hulu.
