The upcoming historical anime series The World Is Dancing just dropped a major update for fans waiting to see this unique story about the boy who created Noh theatre. The show now has a final release date, a new music-filled trailer, and five additional voice actors joining the production.
The anime will officially begin broadcasting on July 2, 2026. The announcement arrived alongside a fresh main promotional video and key visual that give viewers their best look yet at 14th-century Japan through the eyes of a young performer searching for meaning in dance.
New Trailer Features First Listen of Opening Theme Song
The main trailer runs over a minute long and focuses heavily on the main character Oniyasha. Viewers see his early life as a performer in the sarugaku theater. The trailer also shows his important meeting with the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.
The opening theme song “Shusyo” plays throughout the video. Japanese rock band Macaroni Empitsu performs the track. This marks the first time the song has been shared with the public. The band wrote the song specifically for the anime’s historical setting and emotional tone.
The visuals in the trailer highlight the animation quality from studio Cypic (formerly known as CygamesPictures). The studio has worked on popular titles like Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Summer Hikaru Died. The trailer shows smooth dance movements and detailed historical backdrops that bring the Noh theater world to life.

What Is The World Is Dancing About?
The story takes place in 1374 during the conflict between Japan’s Northern and Southern Courts. Oniyasha is a 12-year-old boy born into a traveling theater troupe. His father Kanami leads the Kanze troupe of sarugaku performers.
Oniyasha spends much of his childhood asking a simple question: Why do people dance? He cannot understand the value of the art form that surrounds him every day. His spirit remains unclear until the day he sees a performance that he considers truly “good.”
The boy meets powerful figures like shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. He experiences joy and sadness. He confronts his own weaknesses. Slowly, he begins shaping a new form of dance for a world filled with change and uncertainty.
This coming-of-age story is a fictionalized account of Zeami Motokiyo, who was known as Oniyasha in his childhood. Zeami is a legendary figure in Japanese culture. He helped create Noh theatre, the world’s oldest surviving theater art. Noh combines dance, music, chanting, and masked performances into slow, highly stylized stage plays that continue to be performed today.

“When I saw how star-studded the rest of the cast was, my eyes practically popped out of my head,” said Hazuki Seto, who voices Satsuki. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such wonderful people and to have met Satsuki. She has such a rich heart and I love her strength, the way she accepts whatever reality throws her at with so much grace.”
Takahiro Sakurai, who voices Yoshimitsu, admitted he initially knew very little about Noh theatre. He described the anime as an easy entry point for viewers who want to learn about this traditional Japanese art form without any prior knowledge.
