Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s spy thriller have been waiting for news about Lioness Season 3, and the wait is finally over. Paramount+ officially announced that the new season will premiere on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The show stars Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, who both return as executive producers. The third season brings back the high-stakes CIA action after a longer than expected break between seasons.
Why Did Lioness Season 3 Take So Long to Arrive?
The gap between Season 2 (which ended in late 2024) and Season 3 stretched longer than fans expected. The main reason involved contract negotiations. Zoe Saldaña already signed a three-season deal when the show started, so she was always locked in. But Nicole Kidman needed to work out a new agreement with Paramount+ before production could move forward. Those talks took time, but they finally closed earlier this year.
Both actresses also had very busy film schedules. Saldaña spent much of 2025 promoting and winning awards for Emilia Pérez, including an Oscar win. Kidman also had multiple film projects in the works. Working around their availability caused additional delays. Filming for Season 3 took place from October 2025 to March 2026, with several scenes shot on location in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. The show now uses a massive new 450,000-square-foot studio in Fort Worth, the largest working studio in the state.
What to Expect From Lioness Season 3
The official synopsis for Lioness Season 3 sets up a more personal and dangerous mission for Joe McNamara (Saldaña). Hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals all collide in the new season. Joe walks a fine line between her duty to her country and her responsibilities at home. Unseen forces circle her world from all sides.
Patterns start appearing where they should not exist. Names vanish from files. Paths rearrange without explanation. Guided by Kaitlyn Meade (Kidman) and Byron Westfield (Michael Kelly), Joe confronts enemies who operate completely in the shadows. The war she fights now reaches into every part of her life, making this season her most personal challenge yet.
Season 2 ended with Joe’s entire team put in extreme danger before getting saved at the last moment. Season 3 picks up in the aftermath of those events. Joe will work even more closely with Kaitlyn and Byron to fight new threats that are closer to home than ever before.
The Full Cast Returning for Season 3
The Lioness Season 3 cast brings back many familiar faces alongside Saldaña, Kidman, and Kelly. Morgan Freeman returns as Secretary of State Edwin Mullins. Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier also reprise their roles.
Ian Bohen, known for his work on Yellowstone (another Taylor Sheridan show), joins the cast for Season 3. He plays Grady, described as a by-the-book Delta Force operator and primary K9 handler who is very skilled in battlefield tactics.
