Prime Video’s action comedy series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham arrives worldwide on July 15.
The new action comedy series Ride or Die is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 15, 2026. The show brings together Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham as lifelong best friends who find themselves on the run across Europe.
The eight-episode series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. All episodes drop at once, so viewers can watch the entire season starting July 15.
What Is Ride or Die About?
The series follows best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham), who believe they know everything about each other. But Debbie soon discovers that Judith has been hiding a huge secret โ she works as an international assassin.
When a mysterious figure from Judith’s past appears and a hit goes wrong, both women are forced to flee together. They go on a high-stakes road trip across Europe while being chased by law enforcement, trained killers, and dangerous criminals.
The trailer, released on June 8 in honor of National Best Friends Day, shows the duo jumping off trains, stealing cars, and fighting their way through dangerous situations. Dua Lipa’s song “Physical” plays in the background as the action unfolds.
Prime Video describes the show with the tagline: “Some friendships are bulletproof”.

How Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham Joined the Show
Spencer, 56, said she immediately said yes when she was pitched the show. She compared it to someone asking you to marry them on the first date.
“They pitched me the show, and it’s like someone asking you to marry them on the first date. And I said, ‘Absolutely, I will.’ Then they asked, ‘Who do you think should be Judith?’ And I said, ‘Hannah Waddingham.’ And they were like, ‘Thank God, because that’s what we think as well.’”
Waddingham, 51, recalled getting the offer during a Zoom call with Spencer and writer Tessa Coates. She was so surprised to be in the meeting that she did not fully process what was happening.
“We were on a Zoom call, and it’s not every day you have Octavia Spencer’s face on a Zoom call. They read me the treatment and the entire storyline, but I was so overwhelmed to be in the meeting that I wasn’t really concentrating. I asked, ‘What do you want me to do?’ Then Octavia’s whole face filled the screen and she said, ‘We want you to play Judith, ya dummy!’ I just thought, ‘I have to do this.’”
Behind the Scenes
Ride or Die is created by Tessa Coates and executive produced by showrunner Matt Miller. Peyton Reed, known for directing the Ant-Man movies, serves as a director and executive producer.
Other directors include DeMane Davis, Allison Liddi-Brown, and Lauren Wolkstein.
The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. Additional producers include Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti through their company Double Dream, along with Spencer’s Orit Entertainment.
What the Stars Say About the Show
Spencer said she was drawn to the project because it focuses on two women leading an action comedy.
“I loved that it was centered around two women โ two women of a certain age, two brilliant, highly capable women โ doing action and comedy.”
She also talked about the importance of female friendships in the story.
“Female friendships are our sisterhoods. Early in life you’re chasing boys and focused on relationships. As you get older, you really embrace your friendships and your siblings. And if you don’t have sisters, your girlfriends become your sisters.”
Waddingham said she and Spencer wanted the friendship between their characters to feel real rather than perfect.
“One thing Octavia and I were adamant about was that these women had to call each other out. Otherwise it becomes too sweet. It has to be rooted in conflict and potential loss in order for the reconciliation to feel earned.”
