Lee Joo Shil, known for her role in “Squid Game 2,” has died at the age of 81. The veteran actress passed away on February 2, 2025, following a recurrence of breast cancer.
A Life Dedicated to Acting
Lee Joo Shil’s career began in 1964 as both a voice actor and an actor. She graced the screen in numerous productions over the decades, leaving a lasting impact on the Korean entertainment industry. Her recent works include the 2024 KBS romance drama “Beauty and Mr. Romantic” and, most notably, the second season of the global hit Netflix series “Squid Game.” In “Squid Game 2,” she played the mother of detective Hwang Jun Ho, portrayed by actor Wi Ha Joon.
Lee Joo Shil’s health journey included a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer in 1993. She achieved complete remission in 2010, offering hope and inspiration to many. Sadly, the cancer returned in November of the previous year.
Her passing is a loss to the entertainment world, and she will be remembered for her contributions to Korean drama and film.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral for Lee Joo Shil will be held at Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul. The funeral procession is scheduled for February 5th.
