Netflix’s animated movie K-Pop Demon Hunters continues to make history as its signature song “Golden” remains at number one on the UK Official Singles Chart for the fifth consecutive week. The track, performed by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X, has become a global phenomenon since its release in June 2025.

The song has now matched the chart performance of PSY’s 2012 hit “Gangnam Style,” which was the last K-pop song to top the UK charts before “Golden” achieved this milestone. The animated film has shattered Netflix viewership records with 236 million streams, making it the most-watched film in the platform’s history.

K-Pop Dominates UK Charts With Multiple Entries

This week’s UK charts showcase remarkable K-pop dominance, with seven songs by various K-pop acts landing in the Top 40. Besides HUNTR/X’s “Golden” holding the top position, the fictional boy band Saja Boys has two songs in the top 10: “Soda Pop” at number five and “Your Idol” at number eight.

Real-world K-pop groups are also making their mark on the charts. TWICE has two songs charting – “Takedown” at number 24 and “Strategy” at number 32. BLACKPINK’s “JUMP” sits at number 34, benefiting from the group’s recent performances at Wembley Stadium.

The Voices Behind the Music

While HUNTR/X is an animated group, the voices behind the characters are real-life artists. Korean American singer Audrey Nuna, South Korean-born American artist Rei Ami, and composer Ejae (who received training at SM Entertainment) provide the vocals for the chart-topping track.

The film itself features an impressive voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The story follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey who lead double lives as demon hunters, facing off against rival boy band Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons.

Competition and Chart Performance

“Golden” faced strong competition this week from UK artist Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need,” which held at number two for the second week. American superstar Sabrina Carpenter also had a strong showing with three songs in the top 10: “Tears” at number three, “Manchild” at number four, and “My Man on Willpower” at number seven.

Martin Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of Official Charts, commented on the cultural significance of “Golden’s” achievement:

“It’s 13 years since PSY’s Gangnam Style became the first K-Pop Number 1 in the UK, way back in October 2012, but this week represents another landmark moment for the globally dominating South Korean genre.”

Social Media Reactions and Fan Responses

Music fans have taken to social media and chart forums to share their thoughts on the ongoing chart battle. One chart watcher noted:

“Golden and Olivia Dean are just that popular. She got 3 songs in the top 15, three albums charting in the top 15.”

Another fan expressed amazement at “Golden’s” staying power:

“Golden is unstoppable at this point.”

The film’s success has sparked rumors of a possible sequel, though Netflix has not made any official announcements. The combination of the film’s popularity and strategic soundtrack releases has created a lasting impact on music charts worldwide.
