The Marvel series Wonder Man concluded its eight-episode run with a finale that put friendship above everything else. The show, which premiered on January 27, 2026, on Disney+, ended with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II‘s Simon Williams making a bold choice to save Ben Kingsley‘s Trevor Slattery, changing both their lives forever.

After a season of hiding his ionic superpowers while chasing his acting dreams, Simon found his secret threatened when he lost control and destroyed a movie studio soundstage. With the Department of Damage Control (DODC) closing in, his friend Trevor executed a surprising plan to keep Simon free.

Trevor Slattery’s Final Performance as The Mandarin

Facing the end of his own freedom, Trevor Slattery decided to save Simon by returning to his most infamous role. To divert the DODC’s attention, he filmed a new video message as The Mandarin, the fake terrorist persona he played in 2013’s Iron Man 3.

In the video, Trevor claimed he was the real Mandarin all along and that his identity as “Trevor Slattery” was just a long-running act. He took full responsibility for the explosion Simon caused.

“America, did you miss me?” Trevor asked in the video, fully in character as The Mandarin.

The DODC, led by Agent P. Cleary (Arian Moayed), arrested Trevor at his hotel. While Cleary expressed suspicion that Trevor was covering for Simon, the agency accepted the arrest as a public win. Trevor maintained his performance to the very end, telling Cleary, “…and you never saw me coming,” a direct callback to his lines from Iron Man 3.

Simon Williams Achieves His Hollywood Dream

With Trevor taking the blame, Simon’s path to stardom was clear. He returned to set to finish filming the in-universe Wonder Man movie remake, directed by the eccentric Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić). For a key scene, the prop department gave Simon the original red sunglasses worn by the actor in the 1980s Wonder Man film, mirroring the character’s classic look from the comics.

The series then flashed forward to the movie’s glamorous premiere. Simon was celebrated as a star, reconciled with his brother Eric, and even heard talks of a sequel. He had finally achieved the dream he shared with his late father.

However, Simon could not enjoy his success knowing Trevor was imprisoned in a DODC Supermax prison, the same facility seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Simon’s Plan to Free Trevor

Simon’s next move was clever and deliberate. He told his agent he was preparing for a new role by shadowing a blue-collar worker named Chuck Eastman. This “research” was actually a cover. Chuck was a security guard at the DODC prison, and Simon befriended him and his family to gain access.

After Chuck sneaked him into the prison, Simon finally embraced the powers he had spent a lifetime hiding. He located Trevor’s cell and, using his super strength, tore the bars right off the door.

The finale revealed that Simon had mastered new abilities. He displayed the power of flight, something he had not shown before. As prison alarms blared, Simon flew up through the ceiling, carrying Trevor with him, and they blasted off into the sky together.

No Post-Credits Scene or Clear Sequel Plans

Unlike many MCU projects, the Wonder Man finale does not have a mid-credits or post-credits scene. The story ends with Simon and Trevor on the run, their future uncertain.

The series is billed as a limited series, and there has been no official announcement of a second season. Showrunner Andrew Guest expressed that the cast and crew would be thrilled to continue exploring the characters, but no concrete plans are in place.

“I haven’t put too much thought into what would be next for Simon,” Guest said in an interview, suggesting the character might find that fame does not solve all his problems.

Fan Reactions to the Finale

The ending has generated discussion among viewers. On platforms like IMDb, some fans praised the focus on character and the unique Hollywood satire. Others questioned the logic of the DODC’s actions or wished for a more direct link to Simon’s comic book origins.

A major point of discussion is the series’ choice to never explain how Simon got his powers, a departure from typical superhero origin stories. Showrunner Andrew Guest explained this decision by stating that Simon himself does not care about the source of his powers, viewing them as an inconvenient fact of life.

All eight episodes of Wonder Man are available to stream globally on Disney+.
