The latest episode of Marshals on CBS delivered a tense and emotional hour that directly connects back to the Yellowstone universe while tackling a serious real-world issue. Season 1 Episode 5, titled “Lost Girls,” moved away from the procedural case-of-the-week format to focus on a mission that feels deeply personal for Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). The episode, which aired on March 29, 2026, sets up a two-part story that ends with a frustrating cliffhanger, leaving the team empty-handed despite a violent confrontation.

The hour begins with Tate (Brecken Merrill) getting hurt while trying to connect with his late mother Monica’s wild mustang. Kayce decides it is time to sell the horse, a decision Tate resists, accusing his father of trying to erase Monica’s memory. While driving the horse to Wyoming to find a buyer, father and son stop at a gas station where Tate spots an old friend from the Broken Rock Reservation named Hailey. The teenager acts nervous and secretive, claiming she is traveling with her boyfriend. Tate senses something is wrong, and his instincts turn out to be correct—Hailey had been reported missing four months earlier.

Kayce and Miles Go Rogue to Find the Truth

Back at the Marshals’ headquarters, Kayce shares his suspicions with his team. Miles (Tatanka Means) immediately recognizes Hailey’s name from his time on the tribal police force and reveals she is one of several indigenous girls who have vanished without a trace. The team wants to jump on the case, but their leader, Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) , shuts it down. The U.S. Marshals are not supposed to interfere with criminal activity on the reservation unless officially requested, and the Broken Rock tribal police are already stretched too thin.

Miles is frustrated because he knows the pattern all too well. Many missing indigenous women and girls are dismissed as runaways by authorities, leaving families with no answers. Determined to help, Kayce and Miles decide to go rogue. They hide their badges in the glove compartment, with Kayce saying he is not acting as a marshal but simply a father looking for his son’s friend.

Their investigation leads them to a low-level predator named Noah, who uses social media to groom teenage girls from the reservation. Kayce and Miles track him to a fishing spot, and Kayce knocks him out with a tackle box before threatening him to get information. Noah eventually gives up the name of his boss, a trafficker named Kurt Bledsoe.

The Episode Highlights Monica Dutton’s Lasting Legacy

A significant emotional thread throughout the episode is the memory of Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) , Kayce’s late wife who died of cancer before the events of Marshals began. Viewers learn that before her death, Monica was actively working with families on the reservation to find missing women and children. Ava’s mother, one of the grieving parents, reveals that Monica was planning to help her organization before she passed away.

Tate believes that Monica is still guiding them from above. He tells Kayce that running into Hailey while they were trying to sell Monica’s horse was no accident. In his mind, bringing Hailey and the other girls home is the best way to honor his mother’s memory. The wild mustang, which represented Monica’s free spirit, becomes a symbol of the unfinished work she left behind.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team is stuck on protection duty, babysitting a federal witness named Sam LaChance at a luxury hotel. Belle (Arielle Kebbel) and Andrea (Ash Santos) ignore orders and use their resources to help locate Bledsoe. They track the girls to a series of truck stops, believing the traffickers are moving them across state lines in an RV.

A Difficult Choice Leads to a Frustrating Cliffhanger

Kayce eventually locates Hailey at another truck stop. He tries to convince her to leave with him, promising he can keep her safe. But Hailey refuses. She reveals that there are nine other girls being held, and the trafficker Bledsoe already murdered a girl named Ava to set an example. Hailey fears that if she escapes, the others will be killed. She tells Kayce to find them at the next stop with all the trees and runs back to her captors.

Miles is furious that Kayce let her go, but Cal points out that grabbing Hailey would have put the other innocent girls in immediate danger. The team locates the RV and a high-speed chase ensues. They manage to stop the vehicle using spike strips, leading to a shootout where they take down the traffickers. But when Kayce and Miles enter the RV, it is completely empty. Bledsoe had already moved the girls somewhere else.

The episode ends with a “To Be Continued” title card, leaving the fate of Hailey and the others hanging in the balance.

Mo Brings Plenty Hopes the Storyline Raises Awareness

Actor Mo Brings Plenty, who plays Mo in both Yellowstone and Marshals, spoke about the importance of this episode. His character delivers one of the most memorable lines of the night when he takes custody of the predator Noah. “You preyed on the rez,” Mo growls. “Now the rez is gonna prey on you.”

Brings Plenty, who was raised on a reservation in South Dakota, told TVLine that he is thankful the show is bringing attention to the crisis of missing indigenous women and girls. He notes that the issue extends beyond females, as young men in these communities also go missing and are often written off with no proper investigation.

“For a long time in my life, I’ve felt like we were a forgotten people, and now it seems like we’re finally being recognized. We’re actually getting the opportunity to bring to light a lot of the stories that I’ve witnessed in my own life.”

He added that he hopes this storyline serves as a “wake-up call for society and for a lot of these departments to step up.”

Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) also appears in the episode, initially turning down the Marshals’ help because he has been disappointed by empty promises from law enforcement too many times. He eventually relents, asking Cal for assistance because he trusts Kayce. The episode draws a direct line to Monica’s advocacy in Yellowstone Season 3, where she fought to find a missing indigenous woman and child.

Marshals airs Sundays at 8/7c on CBS. New episodes are available to stream on Paramount+ for premium subscribers the same day and for essential subscribers the day after.
