What happened?
Brian Austin Green, the ex-husband of actress Megan Fox, recently spoke out in support of Chelsea Blackwell, a contestant on the Netflix reality show Love Is Blind, who faced criticism for saying that people told her she looked like Fox.
Green, who was married to Fox for 10 years and shares three sons with her, told TMZ that he had heard about Blackwell’s comment and the negative reaction it received online. He said that he felt sorry for Blackwell and that he understood that people often make comparisons based on superficial features.
“Well, I mean, she has brown hair, blue eyes, right? I’m not gonna say,” Green said. “Megan is a very one-of-a-kind beauty. I mean, it’s why a lot of people say she’s possibly the most beautiful woman in the world. You know, she has a very incredible look to her. So, that’s a tough comparison, I think for anyone to make. Stay in your lane, Chelsea, keep your head up. Don’t listen to everybody else. Be proud of yourself and move on.”
Green also said that he had never met Blackwell, but that Fox had told him that she was a “nice, genuine” person. He added that he trusted Fox’s judgment and that he thought Fox would be “flattered” by the comparison.
How did it start?
Blackwell, who is one of the participants on the sixth season of Love Is Blind, a dating show where people get engaged without seeing each other, made the remark during a conversation with her eventual fiancé, Jimmy Presnell, in the pods. She told him that she had been told by many people that she resembled the Transformers star, and asked him if he liked Fox.
Presnell, who seemed excited by the prospect of marrying a Fox lookalike, said that he did and that he thought Fox was “gorgeous”. He also said that he could see the resemblance between Blackwell and Fox, and that he was “very happy” with his choice.
The clip of their exchange went viral after the show premiered on Netflix in February 2024, and many viewers expressed their disbelief and mockery at Blackwell’s claim. Some accused her of being delusional, arrogant, or insecure, while others pointed out the differences between her and Fox in terms of appearance, personality, and career.
How did they react?
Blackwell, who is a 31-year-old marketing manager from Atlanta, Georgia, later apologized to Fox for her comment, saying that she did not mean to offend her or anyone else. She said that she had sent Fox a direct message on Instagram, explaining that it was a “silly, goofy” conversation that she had with Presnell, and that she did not remember saying it.
She also said that she was shocked and hurt by the backlash, and that she did not expect it to blow up to such proportions. She said that she was proud of who she was and that she did not need anyone’s validation.
“I think people are just bored and they need something to talk about, and I guess I was the topic of the week,” she told Us Weekly. “But it’s OK. I’m a strong person. I have a strong support system. I have thick skin. I’m not gonna let it get to me.”
Presnell, who is a 28-year-old construction worker from Nashville, Tennessee, also defended Blackwell, saying that he was partly to blame for the controversy because of his exaggerated reaction. He said that he regretted making Blackwell feel uncomfortable or insecure, and that he loved her for who she was, not for who she looked like.
He also said that he thought Blackwell was an “amazing person” and “beautiful” in her own way, and that he would protect her from any negativity. He said that he hoped people would focus on their love story, rather than on their appearance.
“She’s getting a lot of heat and she doesn’t deserve it,” he told Us Weekly. “I will shield her from all that shit if I need to. I can speak numbers to how she is as a person, and if they want to hate on somebody, they should hate on me. She don’t deserve it.”
What’s next?
The couple, who got engaged after 10 days of talking in the pods, are still together and planning their wedding, according to their social media posts. They have also appeared on several interviews and podcasts, where they have shared more details about their relationship and their experience on the show.
They have also addressed the rumors that they have broken up or cheated on each other, saying that they are “very much in love” and “very happy”. They have also said that they have met each other’s families and friends, and that they have received their support and approval.
They have also expressed their gratitude to the show and to each other, saying that they have found their “soulmates” and their “best friends”. They have also said that they have learned a lot from the show, and that they have grown as individuals and as a couple.
“We’re just so thankful for this opportunity, for this experience, for finding each other,” Blackwell said. “We’re just living in the moment and enjoying every second of it.”
